In case anyone really cares ... the latest blog installment on the Impreza.

2:29 AM
Hey guys :)

2:53 AM
@method hello

3 hours later…
5:56 AM
@Zaid Nae, this is actually the M60. An even better engine :) because no vanos
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 The article I linked pointer out that the 305 and 350 uses the same crank, so it's just the boar that's smaller on the 305. This makes it hard to fit any good size valves, and that's why it's hard to get any power from it. It does make a good sound though.
@RoryAlsop And that's why I like the large engines. They make a good sound. Small engines just doesn't do that. Especially the newer ones, for example the audi tfsi almost sounds like the 1.8tdi. That's not what you want from an engine

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 :D
@DucatiKiller 'Murican.

9:29 AM
@Markus compression ratio plays an important part too

12:27 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 of course we care!

2:28 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Like the blog entry. Keep em coming.

2 hours later…
4:20 PM
@DucatiKiller - @Zaid - @JoErNanO ... thanks guys. I will keep them coming. I hope they are at least interesting.

Yet another utopian car launch

6:22 PM
@Markus ahh - well, I kind of like a V12 noise, but only at WOT. My flat four boxer has a much nicer sound at all speeds, even idle (in my opinion) as it's just so big and round and happy

6:54 PM
@RoryAlsop - Hopefully in the next week or so I'll see what the sound of a flat six makes ... heh heh ... :o)

7:11 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I don't think I've heard a Subaru flat 6

1 hour later…
8:13 PM
@RoryAlsop - I've only heard it briefly as we were running it on ether. I'd suggest with tube headers and a decent exhaust, it'd sound fairly awesome. The EG33 is naturally aspirated in its regular form. This one is no different ... for now. His plans are to pump it full of hot pressurized air sometime in the future. I'm actually going to try and talk him out of it until the engine can be rebuilt to handle it better.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 on ether..? I've seen engines running on methanol. I assume ether is also quite fun

The fuel pump was out when I got the SVX. So we ran it on ether. I just wanted to hear how it sounded while running. Smooth as silk.
The guy selling it to me just had me run a continuous squirt of ether into the intake while he cranked it over. Started right up and ran as long as I was pumping the stuff into it.
Kind of hard to get a good air/fuel mix that way, but hey ... it is what it is, lol.

excellent

Yup.
I'm out re-routing vacuum lines on it right now. Great fun. I'm missing a solenoid from the SVX ... I need to figure out if I need it or not.

8:32 PM
Good evening

@Myself - Hello sir! How are you and the fam?

We are all good, ty. It was just a pain to bring the older one to bed
How about you and the family?

Hey everybody, I'm having trouble understanding something but I don't think its good enough for a real question. Talking to a guy that had his drive belt melt when the compressor clutch got toasted. Wouldn't the (now clutchless) compressor pully still get pulled along by the drive belt? would that really be enough friction to melt a belt? I could certainly understand if it got completely jammed somehow but...

@Zshoulders Does the pulley now has some friction?

@Myself well its 2 states away and I have a somewhat unreliable, not very technically inclined narrator. My guess is that it doesn't; the mechanic he has it at says the clutch is "shot" which to me implies that it is no longer providing enough friction to run the compressor.

8:48 PM
@Zshoulders - It could also mean the bearing for the clutch is shot, which is what I'd assume has happened, considering the shape of the belt.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I had to look up what an A/C compressor bearing was, really makes me realize I don't know anything about A/C's. I think that would make sense.

Yah, the clutch only stops the bearing and causes the compressor to go around. I would bet if the bearing is locked up, then so is the compressor ... just spit balling at this point. It was so much easier back in the day when there was a single v-belt for the compressor which you could just take off ... no more issue.
It's hard to diagnose the issue when you cannot see it in this case.
I'm headed to get food. I hope you can resolve your issue, @Zshoulders

9:08 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 That certainly seems consistent with the other damage. Thanks for the advice guys. It isn't really something I need to resolve, I was just curious because I couldn't figure it out. Certainly has given me a new research topic

11:01 PM
@Zshoulders Just read some of your answers. Good stuff. Keep coming back, we need some more of those.

11:39 PM
@LynnCrumbling LOL....You editor you. How you doin? Been awhile.

Hiya @DucatiKiller ... way too busy with work. And home life.
I'm SO glad to hear that this site finally graduated!

@LynnCrumbling I'm smellin the egg your cookin on that.
Indeed! It's pretty damn cool. Did you get your caucus badge and review the candidates for mod?

I did... but I didn't see YOUR nomination.. what's up with that??

Didn't put one in, I'm going to think about it tonight, talk to my gal. I started a new job today, resigned from my other one about a month ago.
@LynnCrumbling Don't you do Kiosk software
