morning!

2 hours later…
11:45 AM
bought any new awesome cars yet?

@Markus lol.. no, I've been getting the "itch" a bit lately.. but sensibleness is prevailing so far
how about yourself? still hunting?

12:15 PM
still hunting. so that 535i has not been sold yet. first it was out for 175 kSEK (about €17,5k), then went down to 164k, but now it's up to 179k...

@Markus that's weird.. if you did go for it you'd have good grounds for going straight in at 164kSEK or lower. Definitely wouldn't be paying a penny(?) more if they've previously listed it at that!

no exactly, however since it's 450km away it's a long way to go and then go back if they are idiots

@Markus true dat

However there is also very few other cars that are interesting.

4:23 PM
@motosubatsu @RoryAlsop @BobCross @Zaid - I'm wondering what liquid I should use to check the sealing of the valves in my new heads. I want to ensure it's holding just fine prior to installing them onto the engine.
I'm also thinking about doing some slight touch up on the intake runners, as they are "as cast", which looks pretty good, but could be a better. There's a bit of casting flash in the intake runners (I'm sure it's in the exhaust runners as well).

4:42 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 probably acetone or similar

@motosubatsu - Now, if I had some acetone ... ;-)
@motosubatsu - How are things?

water will do the job in a pinch - but something with lower viscosity would be better
if you do use water I'd make sure to use distilled - don't want any deposits getting left

I was thinking about using rubbing alcohol

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 not bad.. pretty glad that it's Friday

@motosubatsu - Fridays are awesome ... especially when you don't have to work :o)

4:46 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 rubbing alcohol should work - viscosity is about the same as water but you get less surface tension so it should be "better" at working it's way through tiny gaps
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 sadly I'm working.. although only for another hour or so

@motosubatsu - I think it would be pretty evident if it's leaking through the valve to seat interface.
@motosubatsu - Yah, I was actually gloating ... ;-)

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 </ glare>

lol
Overall, the new heads look good, though. For the price, they are definitely worth it.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 any gratuitous pics?

I'll post some up in a little bit
This is the "stock" photo off of eBay

4:56 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 looks good

oooh... shiny!

@motosubatsu - No doubt! :o) You have to just love new stuff.
The ports actually look rougher in the pictures than they are in person. The flash picks up the relief of the casting a lot more than what there is.

5:47 PM
eninge porn!
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 how can you not have acetone

@RoryAlsop - dunno, just don't

Hey everyone, quick question, in this video youtu.be/gQmra9sMKrk?t=1541 (3 seconds) there is this film they use on that police car, something like shrink wrap for a wire.. but for a bonnet? how is that material called? Because I want to cover a kinda deep scratch on my car.

@Gizmo - It's regularly called "auto wrap"

Thank you, I hope I can proceed to buy it with that info :P (and well google all application caveats etc)

Can be called "car wrap" as well (as you can see in the amazon.com link)

5:51 PM
But damn that's so cheap, no need to pay 600 eur for respraying.. (and waiting even more for my car than I already wait because it broke down :/ )

@Gizmo - If you've never done it, you need to either have it done professionally, or watch PLENTY of YouTube videos on how to do it.

Hehe yeah that is my plan, to check out what it requires to apply and if I'm not confident then well, maybe find someone who can or find some chap who will respray for 125 eur..
(and dent out a bit)
plan was to respray and dent it out professionally but then it broke down and so did I go broke too.

@Gizmo - I feel you on both points ;-)

414 eur for w new inlet manifold (WHY do they make them out of plastic oh my God, when the mechanic showed it to me I was kinda dissapointed) it is called in English I think (dutch: inlaatspruitstuk)? 100 diag, 100 to fix the turbo, 143 for a used EGR, and well.. EGR change requires disasembly of the whole front of the car so also labour. not going to be cheap (prolly another 300-500)
