@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 definitely! And I can talk about the huge range of career paths in infosec that don't require any coding (most don't, tbh)
@IanC yeah, in Monte Carlo for a conference. I'm talking on Developing New Cyber Talent - which is why I can easily provide info to @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2's daughter :-)

@RoryAlsop - Thanks Brother. I would bet your schedule is a lot harder to work around than my daughter's ... we'll have to figure out what's good for you.

1:00 PM
Hooray for physics and math!

1:57 PM
@RoryAlsop That sounds cool! Specially if there's some free time to explore the city there, as we say here "joining the useful with the pleasant" (not sure if there's a similar saying in english)

@BobCross - If the question is "faster", then gearing. If the question is "quicker", nitrous.

I think there's lot of room for non-coding careers in infosec, since many vulnerabilities are social engineering ones. It's usually easier and cheaper to exploit those than software vulnerabilities
She'd probably need to learn the basics of coding, but it wouldn't have to be her focus I guess
Just throwing my two cents, but @RoryAlsop is the man to talk to her about it! Will have much experience to share :)

2:56 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Nope, the problem being solved is “given a specific theoretical track, how much tire improvement do you need to overcome doubling of horsepower?” Math!

@BobCross - Yes. I watched the video. However, the video is not about what is faster, which has to do with speed, it's about what is quicker, which has to do with time.
Common mistake when dealing with vehicles.

@IanC I also generally take the position that many people who “hate coding” had bad teachers. It’s the same thing as “I hate math.” Well, sure, some monster made you memorize multiplication tables....

1 hour later…
4:20 PM
@BobCross True! I actually like coding, though I haven't been doing it lately. Maybe an year or two ago I was studying some front-end dev, to try some freelancing. When I had a bad experience with my first client I ended up dispirited about it and haven't coded in a while, so I'd have to refresh my memory on lots of things
But I liked it, specially C. I was also enjoying Javascript on the front end side

4:50 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 said another way, one option makes you faster in the straight and the other makes you faster in the corner. Elapsed time is a great way to decide which is most important to you. I like the discussion of just how much horsepower you need to overcome lateral grip.
@IanC it changes things when you can make something you want, rather than trying to get the last East homework assignment done.

5:04 PM
@BobCross For sure, it was always a hobby for me so I probably enjoyed it more because I wouldn't have assignments
Of course sometimes I had to program something more boring to learn some concept, but I had no schedules or constraints, makes it more pleasant I guess
Man, nuts and bolts hold something against me, I just "lost" another nut. Not lost actually, I kind of know where it is, just can't reach it. It's inside some metal sheet that has a small access, so I can't fit my whole hand in there. If only I had a magnet -.-
At least I know where it is and it isn't a place that would cause any damage. I also don't need it right now, because I replaced the bolt with my modified one, but I still want to get it out of there

6 hours later…
11:00 PM
Talking of speed:
@IanC infosec and cyber security do not require coding, or any IT discipline. If you want to be a penetrating tester, then yes, but I have hired people with music degrees, biology, I even had a stuntman

11:36 PM
@RoryAlsop Cool! I thought you'd have to know the basics, like a broad view at least. I imagine someone in the team is probably going to be focused on the pen-testing then, and the others can work on the other kinds of vulnerabilities that don't involve coding?
