@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 My old freezer had one, and it worked - it bleated if the temperature inside had been above a certain value - I think the idea being that if you have a power cut, and the stuff defrosts, and then the power comes on and it re-freezes, it warns you that has happened and so the food is no longer safe to eat

@NickC - What? We're not supposed to eat that stuff? What's a little salmonella and freezer burn between friends?

11:23 AM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 that which doesn't kill ya, right?
@motosubatsu and @Ceshion - I'm borrowing a Harley Ultra Glide today for a couple of weeks. Can't wait

@RoryAlsop nice :) I really should get around to getting my bike license one of these days

11:42 AM
@motosubatsu it's going to be fun on next week's commute. I'm trying out a few to decide which one I will buy

@RoryAlsop I've been thinking about getting my license and a commuter bike... it would probably save me two hours a day in commute time at the moment

@motosubatsu It would save me between 10 minutes and an hour, depending on traffic

@RoryAlsop the thing that really puts me off is seeing how many close calls there are with bikers filtering through the traffic
I'm reasonably fond of all my limbs and would prefer to keep them!

@motosubatsu I have watched so many bike crash / road rage vids the past couple of weeks. Loads of things to avoid - I'm very risk managed

@RoryAlsop yeah I think I'm definitely going to get my CBT done at the very least.. I actually did one last year but struggled as I'd dislocated my knee a couple of weeks before so didn't get the cert

11:55 AM
@motosubatsu definitely. It then means you can ride in future, so getting it done is a good step

@RoryAlsop if I find myself with some time off after this contract I might get it done :)

@motosubatsu - Realistically, you can easily justify buying one if it will save you that much time every commuting day. That's up to 10 hours per week. 520 hours/year. That's some serious savings. How much is your time worth? At $74/hr, that's worth $38.5k over a year ... very easy to justify with economics alone.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 the economics are tricky since I'm paid a day rate not an hourly one. The time back would be handy though - it would probably depend on how tiring it was to ride that sort of distance (50 miles each way)

@motosubatsu - And I was using what I get paid per hour as well ... I'm sure not everyone gets paid the same ;o) ... It would be easier for me to justify than most, but still, two hours a day is well worth it.

2:43 PM
I don't know why, but this is just flippin' cool ...

2:58 PM
Fluid dynamics: always cool
It's especially neat that the secondary rings are self-stable and, when they lose their forward momentum, don't decay. You're left with the rings hanging out in the water column

@BobCross - Absolutely ... just tells us as much as us humans know, there's so much more we don't know.

Actually, I'm more in tune with Destin's message of persistence: never give up!

3:39 PM
No thanks - that video is basically people being killed or maimed. Back to Smarter Every Day for me!

I was basically looking at the people who weren't getting killed or maimed ... besides, it's a train wreck (literally sometimes) ... once you start watching, it's hard to look away.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 it has a battery. If it detects that power is interrupted or the temp gets too high, it sounds an alarm. Which is basically inaudible outside of the garage. Need something that’ll send me a text instead.
After yesterday’s cruise through the lovely mountains of Colorado, I have several stars and a 6” crack in the windshield. Heading back home to Big D. And the crack is bigger today than it was yesterday.
This is similar to how the SOS drama started. Dammit.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 botulinum toxin is used in cosmetics, so why not?
