@BobCross - Oh, no doubt they have their uses. I'm also sure they improve your handling and driving ability. If I was in an area which had continual snowpack on the roads like I did in Montana, I'd have snow tires. Considering how it works around here where they treat the roads with so much crap, it all becomes slush, which squishes out of the way. Just have to slow down some to allow it time to happen.

12:13 AM
I agree with the article: if you live in an area where it gets cold, winter tires are highly recommended. They’re a skill multiplier as well as a safety buffer.

Fair enough.

I never ever believe the road treatment. I also don’t want to depend on the road service workers to meet my performance requirements. If nothing else, I’d get stuck in my own driveway in 4-5 inches of snow when they don’t plow my neighborhood.

lol
@BobCross - You all are going to get hammered over the next 24 hours it seems.

Hello from Nashville!

2:17 AM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I’m in a very different time zone. Doing things.

2:59 AM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 yeah, it's odd not getting hammered here while further south is

Does anyone know of a decent route planner that will let you avoid particular roads?

Q: 2000 ford e250 slamming into second gear when hot

DerekPulled the valve body th accumulator seals and piston appear to be good. The 1-2 valve seems fine. Any ideas?

Worst kind of wrenching. Dude doesn't know what exactly is wrong with the transmission, so comes on here and asks a question (good job!), but then after a couple of unqualified comments (unqualified because there's not enough detail in the question), he says he's going to replace parts (terrible!) ... when will people ever learn. Don't throw parts at a problem until you know what the problem is and what parts are needed to fix it.

1:21 PM
@Zaid - Just found out why we haven't seen and Roadkill or HotRod Garage videos on YouTube lately ... they are strictly on Motortrend On Demand. No more YouTube.

2:00 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 that sucks

You can still see their content for free on MotorTrend.com, but it's going to be two months behind and with commercials.

Well, I don't blame them. Their operation is too large for YouTube monetization to keep them afloat, even with sponsors
It take quality investment to churn out quality videos

2:23 PM
@Zaid - Agreed ... especially if you want to get paid.

What's cooking?
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2

Not much. Teleworking this week, working on training.

I'd work from home if I could get something done there

LOL
It is challenging

Oh yeah. I've tried many times

2:29 PM
I don't have any little ones running around. The most pesky thing I have is a cat who keeps rubbing my leg wanting attention.

Kids, chores, distractions. It's why I keep work at the office

Funny thing is, I'm using my earbuds (as opposed to my head set). If I love on him, I get static discharge through the earbuds ... not a pleasant experience!

Ouch

It's snowing outside right now. If I wasn't teleworking, I'd have the day off. As soon as this training is done, I'm going to kill my telework agreement and not worry about it anymore.
I'm doing ITIL Foundation training ... pretty boring stuff. Especially since I know most of it already (got a 75% on the pretest). I'm sure I could pass the cert right now, but I'm trying to ensure I have the broader knowledge from the training.

Incident requests and all that good stuff?

2:33 PM
Yah. The thing about it is, everything in the training is based from a provider point of view, while I'm the customer in the mix.

I feel your pain

It's okay. I'm getting more done here at home than I would be doing it at work, plus I don't have to get up at 4am, nor travel 42 miles to and from work every morning.

I don't know if it's the implementation at my workplace or the nature of ITIL itself but I find it very un-user-friendly

It actually makes a lot of sense to me. It's service agnostic and common sense based, so it should be able to fit into about any organization.
Unlike so many other things ...

3:34 PM
Fun fact: my mechanics.SE impact score is now higher than my Stackoverflow's

What is the "impact score"?
The "People Reached" thing?
You also have more Q's & A's on Mech than you do on SO
@Zaid

Yes I do have more Q's & A's here but SO is king when it comes to traffic
And my SO account was active since 2009. My mech career started many years later

@Zaid - The problem is, there's so much content on SO, stuff gets lost in the mix.
If people cannot find something, it's not going to get looked at.
To get looked at is how the impact score goes up.
You have 18 "famous questions" here, while only 11 on SO ... that's a pretty huge difference in and of itself.

3:56 PM
True. My favorite set of famous questions are on Unix.SE
My rep there is almost entirely due to the questions

I'm a Unix fan-boy ... wish I still lived in that world.

Q: A180 diesel doesn't start, pops open diesel cap instead

hisetipWhen I try to start my diesel Mercedes A180 it doesn't start and the diesel cap opens instead! When I turn the key, sometimes it makes the starting noise (but then stops). At other times it doesn't even make the noise when I turn the key and other time didn't even light up any light on the panel...

So, maybe I don't understand something... What is a "diesel cap"? His gas cap literally pops open? Does it not screw on?

@JPhi1618 - That's what I was assuming (gas cap) ... doesn't make sense to me, either.

Ok, other comments didn't ask about it so I thought I was misinterpreting something.
Maybe a rat got into the the wiring harness. Like the have a button to press to pop open the fuel door, and that's shorting out on a dead rat or something.

lol, maybe

Looked it up and the earlier models of that car are pretty ugly.
Wanted to see how old of a car we're talking about... 1997 at the earliest.

6:58 PM
@JPhi1618 Prius on steroids.
U-G-L-Y ... Your Momma says you're ugly, hey!

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Lol, yea it does look like that. More like Prius on Diesel!

@JPhi1618 - On diesel? Does that mean it looks a little more beefier? ;-)
Four door Smart car.

I'm jealous about some of the european cars that don't get imported here, but then there are some, where I'm like, yea, you guys can keep that...

Saw this question and thought it was from DIY.SE and was like, WTF would someone want a latex countertop?!?

Q: Latex custom counters

mhtsortI have been studying the way that custom enumeration labels work From source2e.pdf I get: \def\alph#1{\expandafter\@alph\csname c@#1\endcsname} \def\@alph#1{ \ifcase#1\or a\or b\or c\or d\or e\or f\or g\or h\or i\or j\or k\or l\or m\or n\or o\or p\or q\or r\or s\or t\or u\or ...

But then I got really curious about a latex countertop.

7:57 PM
ROFL!
