@Zaid - Dude is too awesome ...
"What's that smell?"
I just finished watching it and realized it is over 17m views at this time ... it came out yesterday ... flippin' viral!

@RoryAlsop Does it also have to do with planned obsolescence? The subject kind of reminded me of that. I also agree about preferring the used car market (even though it takes practice which sometimes comes with failure to learn how to pick a good deal). Cars are usually designed to last much longer than what takes to people decide to trade them
By the way, I finally passed the car inspection today!
After a very tiring journey with some bad surprises, but I'm finally free to get my documentation done and start working on some other stuff in the car
Next step is to clear the cooling system, cleaning the additive tank so I can see the level easier and adding additive
After cleaning the expansion tank, I'm going to disconnect the return hose and let the engine run while adding water, until it comes out clear, than add the additive until it comes out in the return hose and reconnect

Q: What can cause "check gas cap" warnings other than a loose gas cap?

LukeI have a 2006 Saturn Ion, and a few months ago I started getting a warning about my gas cap. Specifically, as I was driving the dash display would beep and say "Check Gas Cap." I bought a new cap to rule out that issue, and I've been diligent about making sure it's screwed on and clicking to be o...

darn auto bumped again

@AsenM community will bump questions that don't have any upvoted answers - I've added a little to your answer (shamelessly stolen from Paul's comment) and upvoted it

@AsenM +1 it's a good answer

10:54 AM
@NickC thanks for editing. Usually i write crap in the mornings.
@NickC yeah answer is kinda "stolen" from Paul if he answered the question I wouldn't bother and would upvote insted.

11:13 AM
@AsenM No problem - if you see one of your answers has no upvotes, it's always worth taking a second look at it - just a quick "hey, is there anything I can do to improve this?" type thing. Sometimes, of course, it's simply that no-one noticed it, in which case the auto-bump might well bring it to attention - certainly I've voted for very old answers sometimes, that I simply missed when they were first posted
@BobCross Your deduction is slightly flawed - that only applies to the male of the species. My wife has the magic ability to feel cold seemingly regardless of the ambient temperature.

@NickC that doesn't invalidate his hypothesis, merely suggests that when the temperatures aren't low that something else is making her feel cold :D

@Zaid - I have no doubt it's even more huge than that now ... I wonder if he had an inkling it would go as viral as it is? :o) Good on him!
Over 26M now ... a million an hour? HOLY CRUD!
Doing better than cat videos, lol.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I think he might have. The video combines several things which we love as humans. It's got something for the technically-inclined, something for those who enjoy seeing people's reactions to pranks, something for those who love it when the bad guys suffer
I've already watched it like five times today with different people lol

@user71659 - No, I believe what I said in the comments is what I meant. CAFE standards may play a part, but the manufacturers still have to pay a gas guzzler tax if they don't meet a combined fuel economy of at least 22.5 mpg. Again, we can continue here, but I will delete anything further in the comments. They are not made for extended conversations.

7:18 PM
That one video netted him over 600k subscribers. Wow

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 You keep ignoring what I am saying and keep saying inaccurate statements about US fuel economy. Gas guzzler threshold is so low it does not affect anything close to a mass market car. Simply look at the list: nepis.epa.gov/Exe/ZyPDF.cgi/P100OA3I.PDF?Dockey=P100OA3I.PDF The only vehicle that is close to mass market is one non-standard engine configuration of the Dodge Challenger
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 The simple fact is that EPA has a threshold fuel economy via CAFE. Once a manufacturer meets CAFE, it has no government incentive to go over. Therefore, manufacturers spend the rest of their engineering headroom in cost and comfort. For example, cars with smaller engines are paired with cheaper, 6-speed transmissions, whereas more powerful engine options are paired with 8-speed.

@user71659 - That's fine.
@user71659 - The real reason the manufacturers have gone to higher speed (8 or 10 speeds v 6 speeds) is to allow the engines of the car to stay in their power band. If you look at the ratios, you'll find the highest gears of a six-speed won't be much (if any) less than an eight-speed.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 And more gears = more expensive. So cost is always a concern. Cheap F-150s come with a 6 speed, more expensive ones have a 10 speed. So the transmission that comes with it is not always the best.
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 The ultimate example is for large trucks, Eaton has a transmission that can be converted from a 9 to 13 speed: eaton.com/us/en-us/catalog/transmissions/…

@user71659 - I believe truck transmissions rely on more gears for larger loads, so they can utilize the short power band of the big 6-cyl diesel engines.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 They do. But there's a cost-benefit tradeoff. Every truck doesn't come with an 18 speed. Purchasers do a fuel cost-transmission cost tradeoff. And that leads to upgradeable transmissions or people swapping transmissions as a whole when assumptions change.
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 The whole point is just because it came with it doesn't mean its the best. There's a acquisition cost tradeoff.

@user71659 - No matter what kind of vehicle you buy, there's a reason for the powertrain which is in it. A transmission made for economy purposes won't work for performance, so it all depends on your perspective and what your end goal is.
You don't usually buy a Yugo to drag race it.

11:26 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 And the reason is not always efficiency. Acquisition cost always has to do with it. That's why, as I said the cheap F-150 has a less efficient 6-speed to lower purchase price.
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 So the "best" can highly depend on the user's goals, budget, and mission. That is, a F-150 that drives 3 miles around a campus a day doesn't need a 10 speed, versus one that tows 100 miles. So you can't say that the decisions made by the factory engineers are best for you.
