Thanks for your compassion, guys! <3 - We've fixed it yesterday. Changed the radiator, new side panel and new headlight unit. Bumper and hood is kept and will probably be changed later. Saved a few hundreds of euro's by doing it with my dad.

Overall it was a really cool 'project'. I have pictures, if anyone is interested, but I don't want to spam this chat with them :)

8:28 AM
@Paramone HID lamps, I assume?

9:46 AM
@Myself Sadly no, the price differency was just way too much. Also I might get it completely fixed (bumper and hood) and sell it and get a newer model.
Got mine for 76,93 eu and the price for one HID unit is 470,59 euro.

These guys are having way too much fun.

3:36 PM
anybody had a big truck and big trailer? I'm getting confused on towing capacity.

@JPhi1618 - What exactly is the issue?

Well, we are looking at maybe getting a 5th wheel RV and a truck.

Okay?
Are you wondering what size of truck you'll need to haul it?
Go big or go home.

The guy says he uses his F-250 to pull it. The trailer has a GWVR of 15,500, and as far as I can tell, the towing capacity on a new F-250 tops out at 15k.
So it seems like he's actually overloading the truck, but also says "pulls it just fine!".

I'd suggest the F-250 is a might small.

3:51 PM
To me it seems like you'd need a F-350 SRW, or a Dually.
But, I don't really want a dually unless it's absolutely needed.

I'd look at a dually, that's for sure. It'll be more stable in towing.
Also, diesel engine.

That's my thinking as well, for a trailer that big.
But I see a lot of people towing them with SRW... Not sure if I'm being overly cautious or if they are being negligent.

If you're looking for a used truck, look to see if it has a trailer brake already installed.

Yea, we're looking used for sure.

And no manual transmission :)

3:53 PM
@JPhi1618 - Probably neither. Most 1-ton trucks are dually

Is the F-350 with single wheels considered a 3/4 ton?

@JPhi1618 - No. The F-350 is a 1-t

Right, so it's not just the dually that makes it a 1T.

I know Ford makes SRW trucks in 1T. Not sure if Chevy/Dodge do as well, but would bet they're out there.
Stability is why I'd be looking at a dually

Yea, I found a few used SRW 350's so they are out there for sure.
I just worry about having such a big truck day-to-day.

3:57 PM
@JPhi1618 - That is the trade-off ... but you're in TX ... Isn't everything big there?
:o)

It seems that parking spaces are not any bigger, lol.
Even though they certainly should be.

Haha! Exactly!

Like getting that dually into my parking garage at work might be an issue.

Hehe, no doubt about it.

4:18 PM
@JPhi1618 This looks REALLY cool

good evening!

Good evening :)
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 How've you been doing? Any projects?

Nice to meet you folks, my name is Ian! Enjoy riding motorcycles (or at least the one I can afford :p), been starting to do the maintenance myself on whatever I can lately, after finding out how choosing a bad mechanic can be more harmful than trying to do things yourself!
how are you doing?

@Paramone, the RV?
@IanC, good, welcome.
It's not a constant conversation in here, but people pop in and talk from time to time. There will be 3-4 active people some days.
@Paramone, I think what we really want is a "toy hauler". Basically the same thing, but the back 10-13 feet is a sleeping area where the beds fold up and there's tie-downs for motorcycles or ATVs, etc.

thanks! I'm not all that active (time has been tight lately), but might show once in a while :)

4:29 PM
You can @ someones name and they get a notification to read it and respond later.
Works good for in-and-out conversations.

cool
are there many small cc honda riders out there? I heard it's not very common in other countries, since higher cc bikes are cheaper than in mine

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2, found this truck locally - cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/716834967/overview/…
Looks very nice for the age. Not sure if something that old is a bad idea, but it's very tempting at only $15k.
@IanC, what country are you in?

@JPhi1618 Brazil, currently with a 150cc CG Fan Honda
motorcycle and car prices are abusive here

Yea, I understand that. In the US, things tend to be spread out a little more so we tend to have larger CC bikes for more speed and comfort over the distances involved.

there is a car that is produced here, from VW, which is more expensive here than it is on a neighbor country where it's exported for

4:37 PM
But, people in big cities still love the little bikes. Groms and similar are pretty popular in some areas
Smallest bike I had was a Suzuki GS500.

@JPhi1618 Nice! I think about moving up on cc later, when I'm more comfortable with my house's financing, but for now the small Honda has been doing its job, and maintenance is cheaper
but I agree, long travels with it get a little discomfortable, longest I traveled was ~240 miles in a day I guess

@IanC, wow, that's quite a trip! I know guys that would complain about that on a Goldwing, let alone a small 150cc bike.

it was when I used to ride with a club, now I've doing trips less frequently (and usually smaller in distance)
@JPhi1618 this weekend I'm planning on a small one, 100 miles to visit my aunt and surf some further beaches on my days off :)

Cool, 100 miles is a good trip. Looked up that bike, and it looks pretty cool.
Not what I was expecting when you said 150cc.

was just doing some maintenance earlier, changing oil then I found out my chain strecher was kind of broke, had to go buy some replacements, but I think it's all good to go now
@JPhi1618 it's a "warrior" bike, it endures a lot :p
but not the best on highways, top speed is like 80mph on the pannel (in a straight with the wind in favor haha)
so have to be cautious overtaking, specially since we have a couple of **heads on the road around here
^ that's my bike

4:56 PM
Yea, that's cool! If you can get up to 80, that's better than I would expect, and enough for most roads.

@JPhi1618 I was thinking about getting an old beaten dirt bike, for some playful riding in a circuit close by, but the time I'd have for it probably isn't worth the investment.. It'd be very cool to improve some riding skills we don't get to improve on the streets :p

Do they have dual-sport type bikes that you can ride like a dirt bike but still be street legal there?

@JPhi1618 yeah, I was looking for some documented trail bikes, I'd probably stripe some of the unnecessary parts (except for the ones required for riding on the street, which I could disassembly on the track only), but I'd need them documented because the track is close but I'd still have to ride quite a bit on the street with it

3 hours later…
7:59 PM
@JPhi1618 - Please understand, I'm not a huge Ford fan. They seem to have a lot of issues Dodge/Chevy trucks don't have. I really have no clue why Ford Trucks continually sell the best. The mileage itself on the truck looks good. Price point seems good as well. Diesel trucks should have great longevity as long as maintenance is kept up. Remember, diesel maintenance is more intensive ($$) than gasoline, but you don't have to do it as often.
@JPhi1618 - Also, since that's a dealership, there's some wiggle room on the price. Most dealerships will add an additional $3k on used vehicles above what they have in it. If you like the truck, work them down.

8:30 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2, good points. I guess maybe because they sell better in the first place, the used market on Ford HD trucks is better. More to choose from.
There are some Chevy and Dodge, but the ones I saw just don't seem as nice - but I am keeping my options open.
My MIL has a F-350 Dually that she bought new 2 yrs ago and its very nice. She had a Silverado 2500 before that tho, so no big brand loyalty.
I will admit that in that part of my brain that likes car brands for no real reasons, Ford does seem more like a "real Texas truck" and it's what I gravitate towards. Again, could just be because they're all over.

Hi. My name's Paul and I'm addicted to machining porn.
Isn't that the first step to recovery? Admitting you have an addiction?
