I can't even say that lol

There's a "deep throat click" there in the middle.

Q: How is y’all’dn’t’ve pronounced

NᴮᶻAccording to Wikipedia, y’all’dn’t’ve is a valid contraction. I am having difficulty pronouncing the L-D-N-T-V consonant cluster, especially since there is no vowel at the end (silent E). Y’all’dn’t’ve any advice or audio samples would you?

That has to be a troll.

I sure hope so.. lol
or people have WAY to much time on their hands

Lol. Looked at the avatar and thought he was a damn hipster... But he's an orthodox Jew.

8:03 PM
Yeah, not exactly the same social group lol
Although they do have cool hats in common.. :)
Although the Orthodox have much nicer hats. Last I knew the really formal ones are HUGE money..
Although I might be thinking of the Hacedic (spelling?) Jews.
I'm way to tired to make any real sense today.... Ok, so today isn't all that different from any other day...

3 edits in the past 5 messages... Not a good day at all.
(we can see your pencils of shame)

@JPhi1618 Yeah, I want to ask @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 if he's ever heard of something like that.

I commented... I've never heard of it.

Paulster, we're talking about this answer: mechanics.stackexchange.com/a/28156/1743

8:26 PM
@JPhi1618 "Pencils of Shame" sounds like a horrible B-movie about school children gone bad..

@LynnCrumbling - I was under the impression GM pretty much exclusively used a blend door, but the "hot water valve" concept is actual. I know Ford uses them in at least some of their models. GM could be using them as well.

No kidding.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2, interesting, thanks. Never heard of that.

A: What is this (cooling-system related) part?

Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2This is the heater valve. It's Motocraft part# YG350:

I remembered answer that post some time ago.

8:42 PM
Hey @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 how are you doing?

I'm good, and you?
I'll be on a bit tonight. I just got four articles to write on the Acura TL. Easy stuff like changing the air filter and oil. But changing the timing belt can take a few more words, lol.

Doing great! in 15 minutes I can go home and work on my next car issue... lol

I just moved from Audi to Acura, so that's good for me, lol

Nice, so you work from home too?

@cdunn - Banzai Party Time!

8:44 PM
lmao in my garage, better be a small party lol

@cdunn - A little bit. I've been doing some freelance writing on the side.
How-To articles for a company called Internet Brands.
I can explain more later if you're on.

Very nice! If you don't mind my asking, just in the most general terms, is it making ok money considering the effort level required?

It's time to eat right now.

Go forth and make stomach happy
I'll ttyl

@cdunn - In a word ... No.
It takes a lot of time and little money, but it gets me published.

8:46 PM
True, so good exposure for better gigs later?
go eat lol

A: The Kawasaki H2R Motorcycle has a blower, why doesn't it have an intercooler?

ZaidSo why are intercoolers used? Running the air through a supercharger is going to make it hot and detonation-prone. The primary benefit of an intercooler is that it reduces the temperature of the boosted intake air. This helps keep detonation in check. The extra density is an added bonus because...

@DucatiKiller your answer

@Zaid - Something you didn't mention (at least I didn't see it) is to make the engine with a longer stroke and longer rod length. This increases dwell time of the piston and staves off detonation as well.
@cdunn - Exactly ... At least that's my hope.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Bore x Stroke 76 x 55mm

That was a serious fast meal @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 lol

So it's oversquare

8:56 PM
Not my point on this particular bike ... I'm just saying it's one way to stave off detonation.
@Zaid Yes

gotcha

The dwell time is the key.
The slower the mixture is squeezed, the less chance of detonation, even with higher compression ratios

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I'd have imagined that reducing piston mean speed would help

Dumb question, dwell time? is that the time when the piston is at either TDC or BDC and is moving more slowly having rounded the bend?

@cdunn - Exactly.

8:58 PM
Ah, ok.. Was guessing based on the name.. lol So, the fast piston is ok, it's when it comes closer to TDC on the compression stroke that the lower speed help eliminate detonation... is that right? very cool

@cdunn I see your dumb question, and raise you one: "TDC or BDC"?

Top Dead Center, and I was hoping there was a Bottom Dead Center.. lol

:)
Thanks :)

Don't thank me yet, I may havemade up BDC our of whole cloth and you will get odd looks if you ever use it

@cdunn you're right, it's bottom dead center

9:00 PM
Ok, whew.. ty

@cdunn - Yes, both are accurate

So on a completely different note, flat heads seem to not breath worth a damn, so why are they so popular on hot rods?

@Zaid - Longer dwell time also helps allow the cylinder to fill as the piston reaches BDC.

The 2013 Riddler Award winner is a blown flat head..

@cdunn - They look cool and were the original "hot rod engine"

9:01 PM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 I can imagine that

Really? Looks and tradition over performance? wow

@cdunn - Absolutely ... it fits some people's style. Some are show over go. I'm the opposite.

@cdunn I wouldn't be surprised if it had a Roots blower
That sort of stuff is definitely form over function

@Zaid Now that would be interesting!

I didn't know that.. I'm trying to upload the pic now..

9:03 PM
Kewl.

The thing looks amazing, the car has 4 1/2 miles on it... lol

Looks like a Roots to me. @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 ?

EVERY nut, bolt, and screw has been replaced with a set of cap screws with the caps turned to a step.. Did that for every visible bolt

@Zaid - My guess? 8-71, but yes, definitely roots

8-71? a model number?

9:07 PM
8-71 refers to the size, not the model or the make. 8-71 is the blower which came off a Detroit Diesel V8 8-71 motor.

It's a '40 Ford btw, the car, no idea what the engine is..
Damn, makes sense, the thing is huge. And ty @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2
I really appreciate everyones willingness to answer newbie questions...

Detroit had their "71 Series" motors, which each cylinder displaced 71 cubic inches per cylinder. They had 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 16 cyl models (could have been larger ... may have had a 14 in there as well). The larger the engine, the larger the blower.

Bedtime for me chaps
Gotta go

Night @Zaid have a great night

@Zaid - Night bro. Sleep the sleep of the dead ... as long as you get up in the morning.
:o)

9:09 PM
lol, like I have a choice in the matter :)

I know, bills, right?

For extra credit who knows wher ethe expression "sleep tight" comes from?

Not a clue and from you asking the question, I'm not sure I want to know.

lmao not to worry

don't let the bed bugs bite ... nice.

9:10 PM
Comes from the days when beds had rope supports under them. Sleep tight meant to keep the ropes tight.. And bed bugs were a real problem because the "matress" was filled with straw / hay.. lol

Bed bugs were a problem because people were nasty ... works the same today.
Don't get me started, lol.

True.. Showering should not be an annual event..

Or even a monthly or weekly event, lol.

ikr
My fav is when one of my fellow engineers lays on half a gallon of some fragrance thinking it will cover whats under it... Yeah, not so much...

I've read that, but I think that it's just because it rhymes.

9:13 PM
I know, it's like you just know there's a ton of nastiness lurking underneath

So much so I don't even want to think about it.. ugh

@Zaid G'night pal!

I was working on my RX-7 in the 80's, something to do with undercoat that had to come off for something, so I scrubbed, brushed, everything I could think of to get that crap out from under my nails.. Failed miserably. Felt aweful for days
Anyway, time for me to go join 150,000 of my closest friends as we slog up the local 6 lane parking lot.. lol
See everyone tomorrow, have a great night! :)

Later @cdunn!
anytime you need "blower lessons" let me know, lol ;-)

Later.

9:21 PM
@cdunn - On my wedding day I was putting an engine in my car. When we got through working on it, I couldn't get my hands clean. My wife to be (at the time) went down to the salon to get her hair done. I went down to see if they could help me with my hands. They applied a bleach mixture which took all the dirt off (or made it not so dirty), but also made all the hair on my hands blond as well as you could see a tan line to where they applied it ... I don't know which was worse, lol!

Omg, did you try washing your hands in fuel? Lol!

I didn't have any diesel handy ... it probably would have done the job, but not as well as the bleach did, that's for sure, lol!

Great motor head story, @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2.
Claissic.
Man, 10 points away from the cap today.
Still have some time.
Oooh, look at that - I passed 10k on my total points. Woohoo.

Grats, bro! Well deserved :o)
There ... you're good now.
Don't ever hesitate to ask for an upvote when you're only 10 points away.
Ducati and I have been passing that favor back and forth a bit ... no sense in you not joining the fun.
Oh ... did I type that outloud?
:o)

9:53 PM
@JPhi1618 your on a roll bro.
@JPhi1618 I voted too so you could see the vote but no rep number next to it. That's how @Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 always feels.

@DucatiKiller - Like the cat? Or on a roll without any points?

well now, on a roll without any points.

ROFL!
You know I'm a cat guy, right? I love my dog, but if I had to run into a burning building and could only save one?? Probably the cat. On the other hand, the cat is probably smart enough it'd leave ... the dog would just lay in there and burn.

for sure. The dog would burn. @JPhi1618 would put your cat in pillow case. Watch out for that!
I have a dog on it's last legs right now. It's a lab. Dumbest animal on the planet but the best dog I've ever had the pleasure of raising.

@DucatiKiller - yes ... yes I should

10:01 PM
@Zaid curious. you play chess?

@DucatiKiller - I had a dog like that once. Was a Samoyed/Sheppard mix ... absolutely the best dog I've ever owned. Raised it from a puppy when it would fit in my jump boot (Army stuff). Got to be about 120lbs full grown. Absolutely a great animal ... dumb as a box of rocks, though.
Absolutely loyal.

yeah, that's what I like about dogs. Loyalty
....and they're happy to see you.

If I wasn't home, nobody got into the house other than my wife/child.
He had a deep enough growl and a loud enough bark, with white shiney fangs. Nobody would mess with him.

This lab would go up to robber and sit in front of them expecting food. I had a rotty for years. That thing would wreck a robber.

I had him chained to the hitch on my 68 Chevelle (when it wasn't running). He was pleasantly sleeping behind the car in the evening hours. A cop was patrolling behind the houses and came around to find a dog lunging straight at him. Cop was back pedalling like nobody's business reaching for his gun and basically getting freaked out.

10:05 PM
I had a pair of really expensive forks on my garage shelf. Ohlins. Anytime someone would try and touch them I would yell, "no". Nobody got to touch them. One day one of the guys goes and picks them up and my rotty runs up and corners them growling until they put them back.
Bobcross was just here. I saw him fade away.

I went outside to all the noise. The cop came around the front of the house, slightly out of breath. I asked him what was going on and he told me. My dog came right up to the cop and loved on him ... no hard feelings, lol.

nowadays that dog would get shot.

@DucatiKiller - Wow. That could be a Def Leppard song I think.
@DucatiKiller - Cop admitted it was his fault.

That wouldn't happen in Phoenix. Dead dog, then you goto jail.

Then the cop would go to jail.

10:08 PM
LA too

Cop was on my property.

nah. "I felt threatened on the sidewalk" wash rinse repeat
cop is victim out here.

He'd still go to jail. I'd see to it ... at the very least, he wouldn't be a cop again.
Cop can be all the victim they want to be. They can also be responsible for their actions.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all about the Blue. But I don't have a space in my heart for the "stupid Blue"
They have a tough job, no doubt. Don't make it harder on yourself by doing stupid things.
Anyway, hope I'm not stepping on toes.
Needless to say, this cop was smart enough not to pull his gun and go blazing away. Nobody went to jail. Nobody hurt. Dog soon went back to sleep.

I'm tellin you. Happens all the time here in Phx and LA. Dog gets shot and the owner somehow goes to jail.

Gotcha
Since my wife has found out, after we got a dog and two cats, she's allergic to them ... I doubt we'll have any more animals which a cop might be tempted to shoot.
@DucatiKiller - I guess this episode was back in 1988 when everyone had a little more sense about them. People weren't out to hurt cops on purpose. It was also in Georgia, so things are a little less tense than they are in the big cities. Whole different world than the concrete jungle.

10:34 PM
Yeah, in 80's my friends and I would drive golf carts that we took from the golf course. the cops would drive us home and drop us off and be all nice.

Exactly ... who different world; whole different attitude ... on everybody's part.
@DucatiKiller - Whatcha working on?

Documentation and forcing a customer into a DC failover test so we can sign off a project.
Terrible customers. Lazy and fearful. A bad combo in any industry

10:50 PM
Still doing the dance with them, eh?

yup
same ones we did the buldout for when I went dark for a week +
It's frustrating to meet an arbitrary deadline and when an action item falls on the other party they just flail and go out to lunch

I hate to say it, but if these are customers, there must be some type of requirement for how much time you'll spend on the project until it gets to the point where you'll start charging them more money (running out of billable hours). You may want to remind them of that ... unless you are all part of one happy family.

Everyone breaks their back to be successful to meet their deadlines and they don't meet their own.
They get time and material stacked on when it get's like this....and we don't get payment unless they sign off on a successful test....

Then you pull the plug and hold them hostage.
Yes. I'm that mean.

and they don't even have to do anything really. Just be spectators while we do the first test with all the engineers screens shared.
we have a reputation of not doing that....

10:56 PM
Oh, I'm sorry ... was that the power cord I tripped over?

LMAO

I know. Reputation is everything. It is nice to dream about such things though.

OMG, I'd love to do that but....I couldn't
it is
nice fantasy.

ROFL ... yes it is.

OK...timetomakethedonuts. I'll catch you later bud.

10:57 PM
no worries. Enjoy.
