Q: Aspirin Hydrolysis at pH 2

Thunderbolt114Conducting an experiment, I found that very little salicylic acid was evolved performing hydrolysis at pH 2 and at 45 degrees C. In fact, far more salicylic acid was evolved at pH 7. This comes as a surprise to me because I expected an acid-catalyzed ester hydrolysis to actually quicken the rate ...

Q: What is the chemical formula of the reaction between gluconic acid and Sodium hydroxide?

General MO7I am a high school student that only knows the simplistic forms of chemical formulas and reaction, however, for my essay, I am assuming that in the titration I am carrying out that gluconic acid reacts with sodium hydroxide but I don’t know how to write the formula. Please let me know if you can ...

Q: Colour to carbonyl compounds

RoverWhy Ni(CO)4 is colourless whereas Fe(CO)5 and V(CO)5 are coloured? Fe has 4 unpaired electrons and since CO are strong field ligands that will be paired , do it become diamagnetic , then why it is coloured? Same with V(CO)5.

@Mithoron we do? Are they homework?

@M.A.R. any help with the above question !

Q: Why does denaturation of albumen protein cause pH of solution to increase?

JosephI'm interested in the denaturation of proteins by alcohols, specifically by ethanol. I have devised a simple experiment in which I inject solutions of ethanol (of variable concentrations) into solutions of egg albumen (containing proteins such as conalbumin). I have observed a marked pH change in...
