Q: Accept mark moves a little bit in different states

UndoI just noticed that the checkmark is in a slightly different spot in its two states: It's a little bit to the left when checked, and a little bit to the right when not. Could we have it stay in the same place?

@Kurtis Thanks a lot! This is amazing it looks so good! And thank you again for considering the serif fonts! Yay!
@ringo My beloved tool page... I can't access it... But all the colour certainly makes up for it :D
@ManishEarth Thanks a lot Manish, I am happy it helped :D

Amazing work , finally launched !

Hi @Gowtham, Isn't it?
Have you voted yet?
If not, do it, see the funky little animation. @Kurtis, I was very pleasantly surprised when I did my first upvote :D

3:34 AM
hello again!

@ringo Hi there!
Isn't it a great day... lol

The graduation really is great!
But I'm sad to be stripped of nearly all my administrative powers
Making posts beautiful on a whim was such wonderful power
Especially since no one can seem to bother to format numbers right

Well, it's your time to suggest many more edits ;)
I am striped off my powers, too.

Really?!
But you're Martin!

Haha, lol, thanks

3:39 AM
How do you mean?

The only thing I really miss, is the tools page

What's that?

but that will be at 10k and I am going there
It's a statistical overview of the site
list questions with extreme votes and comments and new tags and such

sounds cool!

very helpful whith detecting if something needs intervention

3:41 AM
I'll just have to work extra hard to get there!

I am making a community ad for xkcd now
You'll do it in no time ;)

XKCD <3
I have a 3 person math class. We're all pretty nerdy and stuff, and every day someone goes "wait, I think there's a relevant xkcd" when something happens

Nice benzene question, btw.
@ringo haha, lol, how true
and the best thing is that they come with transcripts

Yes!

Go ahead, waste some time!
Klick it!

3:45 AM
@Martin-マーチン and thank you! It's something that really irks me but I am definitely helpless as to change

Hmm, I guess the answer is simply, that the one structure implies the other, and with a decent knowledge in chemistry you know that. And chemists are lazy.

All smart people are
heh... pretty funny stuff

Haha, If you want to be lazy, you need to be smart about it ;)

that is true!

hola

at last we have new site! :)

Shiny new suit

Haha, awesome :D

5:12 AM
But I lost my moderator tool and I can't vote to close the question.

A: Were there alternative names for electron orbitals?

FreddyAfter a bit research I can not find anything about alternative names for quantum model of atom. For Bohr's model 1, 2, 3... was used but it was for orbit not for orbitals. According by According William B. Jensen Hund had followed Bohr’s practice of labelling the various shells and subshells...

@Martin-マーチン there was very good question on H.S.M. S.E.

It will be a rough time for mods, since a lot of people lost their privileges, so there might be a lot more flagging

yup it is good I will get chance to increase helpful flags!

@Freddy very true, good question, good answer
Why is is community wiki though? I thought this was not encouraged anymore?

Because I thought that 2nd point about periodic table will not be accepted. There are many stuff I don't know about it.

Hmmm, okay

hahaha etc.

2 hours later…
7:31 AM
Congrats everyone! :D

There has been dancing in the streets here.... well, I was dancing in the streets until a traffic warden reminded me that a) I was still in my pyjamas and b) I was a traffic hazard. — santiago 10 hours ago

I love the theme

@ManishEarth Since you are a mod, I wanted to ask that can messages of chat rooms (the ones created as an extension to comments) be shifted to a new room by a mod?

yes
@Amelia I recognize the gravatar, but not the username

@ManishEarth I'm that one freelancing mod who changed their name

7:34 AM
Are you the same person who was wrangling with a UPDATE query without a WHERE last year? :P

Oh, that wasn't me, that was a developer of mine nuking the entire database

yeah, that
nice to see you again!

Anyways, I have deadlines today. Congrats~

cya
oooooo they gave us the new upvote animations
I need a post to rapidly vote and downvote

8:10 AM
@ManishEarth I was triggering the vote button for quite a while, because I like it so much ;)

Q: Reputation required for privileges

J. LSHow come the reputation required for participating in close votes, accepting edits etc. has been raised to 3k ? I was enjoying helping out on these, and there are not so many members with 3k+ reputation.

12:44 PM
lookin' real good guys

12:56 PM
OMG
It's alive @LordStryker
OMG

Heya Martin. How's it goin buddy?
the site looks pretty sick

Same old same old... we missed ya here...
How is it going?
@LordStryker Agreed, it's really neat. Fancy colours, too.

pretty good. first year is wrapped up. classes over. just working this summer. decided to drop in and say hello.
last i was on here some douchenozzle banned me for a while.

In chat???
Or the page?
Why?

in chat on another sub

1:01 PM
Well, things happen...

it was a beta site. an answer I left led to a lot of inappropriate responses from trolls. i was venting in chat (nothing bad) and apparently it was a mod who said I should have just been grateful for the upvotes I got and completely dismissed my frustration.
i told him he could shove those votes up his gloryhole
3

Haha, that's awesome

instaban lol

well, at least you earned it fair and square

yeah but honestly mods shouldn't be that unprofessional

1:03 PM
Nevermind though
No they should not be unprofessional
but after all they are just humans, too

true that.

and they get tense from time to time...

i just took a break from SE for a while. focused on work.

I understand completely, I wonder if I am not participating too much here.

your impressive rep says otherwise ;)

1:04 PM
Maybe I should focus on some more work...
well, well.... that's just some numbers I don't really care about that
I am just happy we made graduation

no but it translates into participation which was what was brought into question
i know right?!
can't believe we made it.
Yeah my goal this summer is to submit 3 papers minimum
and get engaged

I joined about a year ago and everyone said that it'll be hard

lol
user4945
i'm user14

i have not published anything this or last year :(

Clearly I don't participate
Step it up Martin! You need a collaborator?

1:07 PM
You were an area 51 backer?

Yeah, long time ago

@LordStryker Haha... I think that's my problem ;)
And with that I mean having one

Oh man collaborators can really cause a mess of things and slow things down to a crawl
I know the feels

It's not my fault there are no things to write about
I was working on the mechanism and got up to the completion point
I already presented it on a conference
turned out, we can't be sure about the stereochemistry
it seems we are wrong...
but I question the experiment
and there is no movement whatsoever at the moment

Does the stereochemistry qualitatively change the mechanism?

1:10 PM
Well, we predict the one stereochemistry, while based on the experiment the other is observed
the mechanism itself does not change
just stereo discrimination

what is the energy difference between the two stereoisomers?

1-2 kcal/mol

not much. if using dft i'd go as far as to say they were nearly isoenergetic

would fit superbly, if it wasn't the other way round

and then state that a second stereoisomer is plausible according to the level of theory implemented

1:12 PM
There is no point in publishing if we cannot explain the stereochemistry
that was the whole point of the excercise

what is your level of theory?

and I disagree on the isoenergetic part
I have done many, starting at the basic development with bp86/def2svp
highest level was M06/tzvpp with dispersion and stuff

I've called things that were 0.6 kcal/mol apart 'nearly isoenergetic' and that is with CCSD(T)-F12/haTZ energetics
how big is your system? can you do any -F12 approaches on it?

no way
i don't even have access to a program that does it right now

No but I do.
Just in case you need something like that for the future you can always ping me man.
what is the relative free energy difference between your stereoisomers?
does solvent play a role in the stability of these complexes?

1:21 PM
In the ts it's about 1-2kcal/mol
doesn't change

Just brainstorming. I'm sure you've thought about all of these questions already anyway. Sorry to hear a project hit a dead end

pcm does not influence the geometry at all
explicit solvent consideration failed so far
i believe my calculations are solid and they explain whats going on

then publish it

the problem is that nobody bothered to check the absolute configuration of the product
my sensei and I were talking about that, but he did not seem happy about it
without the experimental basis, there is not really apoint of publishing
also I stopped working on that project now...

but your paper will motivate someone to experimentally examine this again

1:25 PM
they are trying to obtain the crystal structure right now
at least that's what they said
lol
All is better when you can actually do small molecules with big methods :D

but not everyone is interested in small molecules
I get people who look at some of my small molecules and say "That isn't even a real molecule" and walk away

Haha... as long as you are happy with it
BSL! BSL! BSL!

Nobody seems to care that my small molecules will break everything you throw at it. You think you got a good method that describes dispersion-dominated interactions really well? Try it on my dimers and you'll see quite quickly you don't
bsl?

basis set limit

oh!
yeah CBS limit

1:29 PM
you of all people should know

only ever referred to it as complete basis set limit. :\

that's redundant complete = limit

not really. you can approach a limit within some approach that is incomplete

aaaaaarrrrrrggghhhhhhhh

lol
not trying to sound snooty or anything

1:31 PM
if the basis is complete, you are at the limit

well i didnt coin the phrase

i just don't like people saying cbs limit, because a complete basis is obviously the limit ;)
i know...
i am aware that these were far more intelligent people
than us two youngsters
but that does not mean I have to agree lol

well it explains why I didnt know what BSL meant.

:) now you do
but you would always abbreviate CCSD(TQ)/CBS
it does not really matter

oh okay lets see here
CBS limit makes sense because you never have a complete basis set but you have approached the limit of the complete basis set
or is that being redundant again?
no actually I kind of like that
eh, I don't know anymore. I question my entire chemistry career now

1:36 PM
cbs limit simply states that you're done
it does not matter
it's a coined phrase
one should never think too much about it :)
Fun question: Name one molecule, where Full-CI = CISD.

i'm thinking WAY too much about it now. thanks a lot

hmm
H2?

YAYY!
name one molecule where Full CI = CIS

1:40 PM
It's the only one, if you are not considering isotopes

H2^+
bwahahaha

that's not a molecule... that's the beauty about it

h2+ isn't a molecule??

nope, it's an ion
the definition of molecule includes its neutrality
Isn't that great

"An ion is an atom or molecule in which the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of proton"

1:41 PM
yess

i remember this being discussed before here in the past
iupac contradicts itself

well yeah...

maybe they updated their definitions
molecule - "electrically neutral"

instead of molecule it should be molecular entity

ion "An atomic or molecular particle having a net electric charge."
i think they may have edited it

1:43 PM
Haha... and I thought, that would only happen when hell freezes over....

maybe it did :O

O.o noooo
I don't like cold, except when it comes with another word, e.g. beer

I love beer

ADG
good site design

Me too....

1:46 PM
heya @ADG. you been staying out of trouble lately?

ADG
hello

Thought you left us for good.

@LordStryker You gonna step in more often from now on in?

ADG
??

1:49 PM
Yeah I'll definitely make an effort for sure.

Hello!

ADG
समझ नहीं आया क्या कह रहे हो?

Summer really facilitates it.
@ADG English please.

It would be a shame not to... have a little n3rd talk now and then

ADG
that's the problem

1:49 PM
@user223679 Hey there!

@Martin-マーチン yeah but you're hardly ever on at the same time I am

ADG
with me how can you expect me to be best with english and misunderstand me while accepting the fact that I'm not a native english speaker
@Martin-マーチン english please, now you have to change your name as says Lord Stryker

@ADG Just try your best.

@ADG Did not understand what are you saying? Is google translate correct?

ADG
Google translate is rubbish, trust me
yes this time
it is correct

1:51 PM
@LordStryker Yeah, it's already 11pm right now

@LordStryker You were user14?
So you were the 14th person to follow Chem.SE proposal?

@ADG Hindi does not really facilitate discussion especially given that everything on Chem:SE is in English so please try your best to only use English.

@ADG Why would I have to change my name?

@user223679 I suppose I was
certainly came up with a really awesome name for this account though
but that was quite a long time ago

Stryker is a random word?

ADG
1:54 PM
@LordStryker I know that, it was just a point to illustrate how well you are understanding me and I am understanding you all with all this language barriers and blamin gme in the end.

@ADG Do you always come here with the intent to be irritating or is it just by accident?
Because you certainly have a long history of causing issues
Take a break

@LordStryker Btw, your suspension reason was hilarious.

@user223679 Thanks. I was seriously upset that day.
But I definitely deserved it though. :\

But it was cool! ;)

Haha... @LordStryker you earned a scar, wear it with pride
@LordStryker did you kick ADG out?
