I got annoyed so I've added 3 different answers to the gasoline question to show the different non-theoretical ways in which it can be answered on Skeptics. In my opinion all three ways give a way better, more authoritative and convincing answer than the 7 deleted ones which performed armchair chemistry.

Do people have different expectations of truthfulness in different contexts? Not as in "I don't trust info on Facebook as much as documentaries on the BBC", but as in "It's only Facebook, it's ok if they exaggerate or embellish the truth"?

@AndrewGrimm In my experience, yes. I have seen people (not merely me!) get told off for correcting people's claims on Facebook, because "it is only Facebook". Similarly, they refuse to provide references because it is only Facebook.
I've also seen problems where people expect truthfulness in jokes and in magic shows - two contexts where I would say truthfulness is allowed to be stretched.
