Yeah, I know there are a lot of devs overseas,but can't imagine why there is so much development work overseas and next to none in my locale. Are we missing something lucrative? I'm contemplating getting one of my kids to study software development instead of engineering

But then obviously they'll need work. So I may need to kick some doors down and create a niche that doesn't exist here yet. Just can't think of anything particularly useful for devs that hasn't been done already

@localhost you haven't really said enough about what sort of jobs your applying to or what the feedback you've had so far (if any) has been, how far you're getting in the process etc

can't really provide any idea as to why you aren't getting a job without more info

so e.g. I applied for 50-60 jobs and 40 of them never replied, and 15 jobs replied with generic templating (IMO) - *Thank your for applying, we regret to inform you that you have not been selected/or have chosen to go with other candidates (which have more experience) *

4 of them replied, 1 live testing challenge which I failed (it was a code problem solving like kata(if u know)), 2 send me tech test which I couldn't do coz of conflict as both wanted same time back and whilst doing I got ill again (that is one thing I get a lot sick when stressed)

@localhost Well the two tech tests you didn't do were automatically going to be rejections - if you can't be bothered to do the test they aren't going to be bothered to hire you.

The ones that didn't replay or generically rejected to you - what level of seniority were they? how did the job description and requirements match your CV? what sort of salary expectations?

:61729700 I dont wanna sound like a excuser but during that time I pulled my shoulder in gym and pain hasn't left for 1 week till now. 2ndly kids r at home and I cannot focus. 3rd one relate to 2nd one, I do not have a skilled required but I needed to study tutorial to get knowledge but coz of 2nd reason I couldn't

@motosubatsu some of them were juniors and pay expectation was provided so ranging for 25k - 45k (my last one was 48k)

I still have time for both assignment as one of them was having big issue sending me test but cannot send me how to run server so they sended me 5 times but same issue. I m thinking to just email them with the testing of server endpoint testing (that was skill I need to learn)

but I dont know what I should do, I need to change my strategy

@localhost 1st - As someone who has had moderate to severe pain in their neck and shoulder due to a degenerative condition for years, every day, for years. I get it - pain isn't nice. Unfortunately it's just one of those things that make up life. Sometimes you're going to be hurt and that doesn't change that you need to get on with it as best as you can.

2nd Again, I get it kids can be distracting, but you aren't the only person in the world with that going on. If you absolutely can't work around the kids - get yourself to starbucks or a library or somewhere for a couple of hours and crack on with what you need to do

@motosubatsu I did that and it worked but also for last 1 week now my pain has disabled me to do many thing expect cursing myself.

but that is short term, I wanna get long term solution of why 7 yrs this pattern is repeating., I know i am not perfect, english wise or personality wise but being unemployed for looong time in between jobs and constant reject i wish i can know what is it

and blame is much on me, I never niche down on something

honestly.. and I say this with all the kindness in the world, the reason I see for this pattern repeating for the last 7 years is that as soon as there's the slightest bump in the road you.. give up

@localhost both - you've got two possible opportunities in front of you with these tech tests, but instead of getting stuck in and giving it your absolute best, you've gone straight to looking for reasons why you "can't" do them - your shoulder, that they're both due at the same time, the kids, you didn't learn the skills earlier and so on

when you've been in a job in recent years "they didn't onboard me perfectly", "I don't already know this skill that they're asking me to learn", "my health isn't 100%"

I havent given up on tech test, I have taken those as a milestone to reach next level, so I m still doing it and I will send them back despite they rejected me or not coz i wanna be true to myself.

all of this leads you to believe that failure is inevitable - so you give up. And when you give up the "failure" becomes inevitable

not even barista jobs would call me back

or customer services job

also 2 successful developer in family told me to put in-demand in cv coz everyone lies a little to get jobs

my gut feeling doesnt sit with that ^

@localhost to a large extent I think the same applies to the job hunt as well. You've had 3 decent responses to your 50 applications - that's not actually that bad (given the disadvantages your work history gives you), one you failed the test, that happens to pretty much everyone some of the time, and the other two are still possible

yet despite having some possibilities that sound very much like they're worth pursuing you're already going straight to "why can't I get a job? no-one calls me back"

getting the sort of job you want won't be easy with the history you have - but it's not impossible either. Put the work in - apply to everything that fits your experience and skills, bust your ass to do every tech test you get sent to the best of your ability, keep grinding away on your skills, those you have and those you would like to have.

At the moment getting hired is your day job, and you need to treat it as such, every bit of effort you put in, whether it's sending an application, learning/improving a skill or doing the best damn job you can do on a tech test is an investment in yours and your family's future

Shoulder hurts? Take some painkillers and crack on. Kids are distracting you? Get to a quiet environment and focus. Applied to 10 jobs this week? See if you can make it 20 next week.

@motosubatsu what u mean by 'they r worth pursuing'. I mainly get demovitated by amount of time I put in a recruiter or company applying for the job and they didn't come to me or came back with generic

I see time as currency, if u can't compensate, atleast have some feedback

@localhost and there it goes again.. you've already assumed failure: "It's not worth me putting my time in because they'll just say no and won't give me feedback"

and you know what - yeah you're going to put a fair amount of time and effort in on various opportunities that don't result in a job

but if you don't put time and effort in to any of them you aren't going to get a job

like.. at all

it's a numbers game - you might only get hired a 1 out every 50 applications that you do, but you only need that one "win"

sure if you've already got a job that's broadly speaking okay then you can afford to be more choosy about where you put your effort, but you don't

so I got an interview but I told the person that I got no angular or .net experience so got invirte saying

yes I m very much happy but expectation is 'hit the ground running' - in past these sort of jobs want u to know inside out

what should I tell them during interview so they know

I already told recruiter I worked in Vue and some react on which he said they r very tranferable and I said yea

if all goes well. they make ATS system

so I can see myself working for the problem i seek solution too :D

@localhost well clearly they already know you won't know it inside out - what they're asking is for you to convince them that you're going to be able to learn quickly

I'd be telling them a) how quickly you've been able to undertake similar learning in the past and b) explaining what I intended to do during any time between interview and starting the role to get a headstart
