@Old_Lamplighter isn't that largely due to the American version of Heinz ketchup being loaded with HFCS?

@motosubatsu Archer Daniels Midand needs the money. Just waiting for the next dust bowl as the land is being stripped of every last nutrient.

RANT TIME: People want convicts to re-integrate into society, but they make it too damn hard. It's very hard to find an employer who will hire you if you have a criminal record. Most will be limited to either blue collar, start their own business, or roll the dice and hope they get lucky.

@Old_Lamplighter yes.. the US seems to make it particularly difficult for ex-cons. Here you wouldn't have to disclose any prior convictions for most jobs
(assuming those convictions were "spent" that is)

@motosubatsu That's because you can sue anyone for any reason in the USA and very rarely have to pay. It's the same reason why people with disabilities have a hard time. I was once privy to a conversation where they referred to us as "ticking lawsuit timebombs" Hire a felon, you are exposing yourself to liability. Hire someone disabled and you'll find out just what "reasonable accomodations" can be stretched to mean, and even if you win, you'll be out a huge sum in legal fees.
result, felons and people with disabilities are not hired
That
That's a real flaw in the system in the US

Hey ... my ex-boss hasn't responded to my emails or my texts ... I asked them for a reference letter for my immigration application to which they agreed ... and I even drafted the whole thing ... I sent it to them on Sept. 6th ... and reminded them on the 23rd. And still no response ... I texted them yesterday - no response ....
they did tell me that they would need two weeks to look at it ...so I did wait until Sept. 23 to ask for an update ...
In the mean time... they asked me to intern at their company (for no remuneration because they thought I had no experience for a job in consulting) which I turned down nicely saying that I got a job full-time and it was paid ... this was before I emailed them the draft of my ref letter ...
wth
I was simply asking them what their experience has been with consulting and if their company was hiring ... then they started saying how I would not be able to get into consulting without having any connections (so I cannot get in by applying for a job and doing interviews) and that is why they think I should "not worry about money" and do internship with them ...
they kind of forgot that 5 years passed since I last worked for them and that in this 5 years I may have gotten other job exp. they probably thought that because I went abroad for my studies that I didn't get to work and that I would jump at this unpaid internship opportunity ...
wth
and now they aren't responding to my emails or texts about my ref letter ... how long does it take to look at a half page letter and just sign it ... it's not like it is a ref letter highlighting my skills - it's one that just confirms my employment ...
I am so pissed at this ...
