RANT TIME: People want convicts to re-integrate into society, but they make it too damn hard. It's very hard to find an employer who will hire you if you have a criminal record. Most will be limited to either blue collar, start their own business, or roll the dice and hope they get lucky.

@motosubatsu That's because you can sue anyone for any reason in the USA and very rarely have to pay. It's the same reason why people with disabilities have a hard time. I was once privy to a conversation where they referred to us as "ticking lawsuit timebombs" Hire a felon, you are exposing yourself to liability. Hire someone disabled and you'll find out just what "reasonable accomodations" can be stretched to mean, and even if you win, you'll be out a huge sum in legal fees.

Hey ... my ex-boss hasn't responded to my emails or my texts ... I asked them for a reference letter for my immigration application to which they agreed ... and I even drafted the whole thing ... I sent it to them on Sept. 6th ... and reminded them on the 23rd. And still no response ... I texted them yesterday - no response ....
they did tell me that they would need two weeks to look at it ...so I did wait until Sept. 23 to ask for an update ...
In the mean time... they asked me to intern at their company (for no remuneration because they thought I had no experience for a job in consulting) which I turned down nicely saying that I got a job full-time and it was paid ... this was before I emailed them the draft of my ref letter ...
I was simply asking them what their experience has been with consulting and if their company was hiring ... then they started saying how I would not be able to get into consulting without having any connections (so I cannot get in by applying for a job and doing interviews) and that is why they think I should "not worry about money" and do internship with them ...
they kind of forgot that 5 years passed since I last worked for them and that in this 5 years I may have gotten other job exp. they probably thought that because I went abroad for my studies that I didn't get to work and that I would jump at this unpaid internship opportunity ...
