Not sure if this is a good question for main, I didn't see anything in a cursory search. Are there any recommended business plan templates if you don't need to apply to secure funding?

it's somewhat geared towards those who are applying for funding from them but it covers all the essentials you'd be looking to get into a plan
@motosubatsu Thanks. My boss at work is encouraging me to write a plan for an outside business he thinks I should start, I'm not convinced it's viable but it's worth at least looking at. It's been 15 years since I wrote any kind of a business plan, though.

I was thinking, when interviews get stretched out over many weeks (let's say 3 weeks, where on average 3-4 candidates are interviewed per week), do candidates who interviewed in the first week or so lose out? I know that interviewers do take notes, but I have a feeling that they may forget the candidate's "impression" or particular things the candidate may have said two weeks ago ...
@AIQ not in my experience.. interviewers aren't goldfish, and three weeks really isn't that long a time
if anything those going early in the process tend to have the advantage - the interviewers are less "bored" with asking the questions, and if they make a positive impression subsequent interviewees will be measured against them to a certain extent
I can still remember candidates who made a strong impression (both good and bad) from interviews I conducted more than ten years ago.. 3 weeks is a blink
@AIQ I can attest to what Motosubatsu said. The last rounds of interviews I participated in, we all had clear recollections of the candidates. One was eliminated because she was far too overqualified, one was eliminated because he was out of the state, one was eliminated because he blew the interview so badly that I felt sorry for him, and tried to help him through the interview. The one that got it had it 30 seconds into the interview.
Another one came down to two candidates so close that we almost had to flip a coin. The one I preferred didn't get the job (outvoted) but I took him under my wing and kept his weaknesses from management until I trained him up
As cynical as my answers are, I prefer to give people every chance to succeed.
@Old_Lamplighter one was eliminated because he was out of the state - that shouldn't be a valid reason for disqualification ... I mean I am looking for jobs all over Canada and to be disqualified because I am in a different province seems unfair ...
@AIQ It wasn't fair, but a bit of a caveat. this was his home state and he REALLY wanted to get back. It wasn't worth the risk that he'd take our money, move back, and then quit after a safe time. Hiring practices are not fair, not one bit of fairness to be found. So you shouldn't overanalyze it.
Here are some actual REAL reasons that people were not hired.
-Interviewer was allergic to her perfume -Hiring manager took the resumes and threw them in the air, put the ones that landed face-down in the bin because he did't want to hire someone who was unlucky. -Hair too long -Hair too short -Too skinny -Too fat -sent his resume via an email address "redsoxfan123". Hiring manager was a yankees fan -Showed up early for an interview -Showed up on time for an interview
-Didn't like anyone who used VB or had it on a resume -Too pretty, thought she would distract male coworkers -Belonged to a group only open to their own ethnic group, put it on their resume -Listed a church charity on their resume -Too nerdy -Too laid back -Too hyper -Just didn't like him
. . And yes, some of those reasons were highly illegal. To be clear, I had nothing to do with any of that list, Just things I've seen or heard hiring managers pull
I really want to know now if people have rejected me for reasons like that ... I mean I know there are many "holes" in my resume ... and I am okay with not being the top 3 candidates ... but it's been too long I haven't found a full time job
and at this point it makes me wonder all sorts of things ...
@AIQ Been there, done that, tweaked my resume 100s of times. Just focus on making a good impression, and put your best foot forward. The important thing to remember that it could be for one of those crazy reasons and they are screening themselves out. Can you find some freelance or volunteer work?
I got a 2.5 month contract one time. It was NOT contract to hire. I'm in my sixth year here. During that two months I blew their doors off. Look for opportunities everywhere
@Old_Lamplighter I am doing a contract job now ... but it's only 20 hours a week ... I am working with two of my professors - who have hired me in the past for different projects ... so I know that they are pretty happy with me and my work ...
I have a feeling that something particular in my resume is scaring employers off ... and I am kind of "ashamed" about it ... but nothing I can do ...
