What is it with people and red flags?

Someone doesn't reply to your email: red flag.

Someone acts slightly unprofessionally: red flag.

Stub your toe on the way to the interview: red flag.

It seems like other people's lives are way more perfect than mine.

@GregoryCurrie the term is one of my pet peeves.. probably because I mainly see it used to attempt to label every tiny thing as some sort of huge critical issue

@GregoryCurrie If you are referring to my comments, then I called not replying to my email a "red flag" because what else can it be? It was the interviewers who asked me to email them if I had questions for them (this is the part where the candidate usually asks questions at the end of the interview), because they had another back to back interview and my interview had already went on for an hour.

It is quite clear that they didn't feel the need to email me back with answers simply because they didn't think it was worth their time. There is no other interpretation of this other than it saying "Sorry we are not willing to spend anymore time on you because we are not planning to move forward with you".

@AIQ actually I can think of several other interpretations - if you jump straight to the most negative one (and explicitly preclude the possibility of others) you're not doing yourself any favors

In any case, the idea that someone hasn't replied to your email is not a red flag, by any stretch. I can already think of a few different reasons why they may not have responded.

Black flags were flown to guarantee quarter, such as the Jolly Roger. They'd board and mostly take enough supplies to keep going. It wasn't worth it for both ships to sink or at least be heavily damaged
