@MassimoOrtolano Yes and no. Generally speaking this would be in our scope as a workplace topic. But we tend to steer clear of academia settings since they can sometimes have certain dynamics that aren't familiar to outsiders. Bigger issue is that the OP apparently doesn't want to do anything about it that would take too much time. So not sure there's really any point in answering it. :)

@Lilienthal Thanks. I'm fine with having it at Academia, and it's still open, but I asked also here because someone suggested that this would have been a better place.

@AIQ No problem. . You should first make a copy of your resume and then remove all identifying details: name, contact info, name of past employers, school/college, etc. Then it's easiest if you convert it to a PNG and put it on an imgur or similar image host while making sure you're able to delete it afterwards (save the delete link or make an account).

Then you can either link it here if you're comfortable with that, or ping me and I can (ab)use my mod powers to create a private chatroom for us and @Old_Lamplighter.

hi, if I know I'm going to quit next year November, how long before that, if ever, should I let my employer know? At the time I need to give in my quit notice or before that?

@DarkCygnus yep.. Writing needed new mods as they lost nearly the entire team in the fun and games last year, since it was looking like the site would be shuttered if there were no replacements I ran

@undefined as a general rule it's safer to quit when you have to give notice - otherwise you risk the employer letting you go before you're ready

@motosubatsu thank you but I live in a European country with good workers protection. He cant let me go that easily. But yeah, I guess you are right. Time to give notice was 2 month

@undefined yeah I'm UK - we have better protections here than the US but as they say if they want to find a way to get you gone sooner you can't stop them. Given the pandemic-effect on the economy everywhere I think extra caution is a good idea

@undefined You shouldn't tell anyone until the point where you hand in your notice. But that doesn't mean you can't be busy preparing for your handover in the meantime.

"Hey boss, this is my 2 months notice. I've been busy documenting [things / processes / whatever] that I've been working on, and I think in terms of a handover I should train someone on [X / Y]. Let me know what you want to do."

@Nofel From my point of view, it comes across more of a rant and a "he said, I said" kinda post. I would more expect it as a rant someone would say to a friend than coming to a Q&A site asking for advice on how to resolve the situation. I don't think it's re-openable in its current state, but will leave that for the community to decide. I'm only one voice here, so please don't take my word as gospel.

@undefined I have family in Germany. The Workers Councils, and all the regulations afford SOME protection to the extent that they'll protect you from unmotivated malice. But a motivated, malicious boss can still make you miserable by complying to the letter of the law. Don't give early notice.

I must be in a far better headspace these days. I'm ignoring people wanting to fight with me.
