Weird, a whole bunch of old chat messages didn't show up until after I'd sent that one. Sorry about that!

@Old_Lamplighter I'm glad to hear it :)
The last 4 months I've achieved the most extensive, consistent period of weight loss ever. 40 pounds in 16 weeks, so far.

Just hung a chalkboard in my flat and don't know what to write first

@Bee TODO: Think of something to write on the chalkboard

Bee
Ahha

then you can put a tick against it and carry on with your day knowing that you're totally on top of your todo list
:D

Bee
It was more of a maths chalkboard rather than a todo list type :P

a^n + b^n = c^n

Both pretty nice formulas

@Kaz yeah, my A1C is hovering at 6.2, down from 9.8 this time last year. Great to hear about the weight loss.
@Bee If there is one thing I will never get past, it's the UK English saying "maths" instead of "math" the way we do in the USA. I can get past all those extra letters in "color", "armor", and "aluminum". The extra "s" added to "math" is a bridge too far for me.

12:33 PM
@Old_Lamplighter pah.. you savages think the plural of "Lego" is "Legos"

Bee
1:06 PM
When you say its full name - do you say mathematic?
Rather than mathematics? @old_lamp Genuine question

2:05 PM
@Bee mathematical or mathematics, usually. I don't think I've ever used "mathematic"

Bee
See I just don't get that
Why is the short name non-plural if the full name is

@Bee I think we just see "math" as plural.
@motosubatsu LOL!
@Bee alternatively, we may just see the entire field as "math", and saying "maths" seems as artificial as saying "Sciences" instead of "Science"

Bee
Math just feels so incomplete

2:19 PM
@Bee approximately one letter short :P

Bee

America and the UK, two nations separated by a common language.

@Old_Lamplighter don't worry, after America collapses in on itself we'll take the refugees in and teach you how to speak properly again

@motosubatsu I've got my union jack at the ready

4:03 PM
@Old_Lamplighter just practice waving it while humming "God save the Queen" and you'll be fine

4:15 PM
@motosubatsu not a problem, I've always been an anglophile. BTW, can we put in a special request for 545 executions?

4:30 PM
@motosubatsu & @Old_Lamplighter, The US and UK, two nation separated by a large chunk of unswimmable water, unless someone has swum it in which case, nooooooooo

Benoît Lecomte (born 1967) is a French-born long-distance swimmer (now a naturalized American citizen) who claimed to be the first man to swim across the Atlantic Ocean without a kick board in 1998. == Atlantic Ocean swim == From 16 July to 25 September 1998, Lecomte undertook a swim in stages from Hyannis, Massachusetts to Quiberon, Brittany, France, including a one-week stop in the Azores, a Portuguese archipelago.During his 73-day, 3,716-mile (5,980 km; 3,229 nmi) journey, Lecomte was accompanied by a 40-foot (12 m) sailboat that had an electromagnetic field for 25 ft (7.6 m) to ward off sharks...

Q: Employees expressing job dissatisfaction in work chat, how to proceed?

forgottenstuffIn the chat messages of my employees to each other, I found a lot of dissatisfaction by most of the employees. There was also lots of #notmyjob and comments about just letting things slide. What can I do to both address the issues being raised, and discourage this in chat in the future, as I fear...

I edited it. The OP is very frustrated, take a look and see if this gets his intent across in a more... professional manner.

@Old_Lamplighter Were you around last year for my work news?

@Kaz not sure, last year was a blur. I hope it was good

Kaz
@Old_Lamplighter I quit.
Well, what actually happened was that I told my MD I would be handing in my notice to the board, and gave them 48 hours to persuade me not to.
I got my salary doubled, a percentage on all our future acquisitions and equity in the company so long as I stick around.
And they finally hired me an Analyst as well ^^

@Kaz impressive, though I always had a very high opinion of you, and am happy that you are being given the respect and compensation you deserve.

Kaz
It doubled off a very low base. You could see at as a testament to how far I've come relative to where I started in just 5 years.
The equity is pretty compelling though. And I now earn enough even before that that it would be difficult to find a better opportunity without taking on an awful lot of risk.
In the middle of trying to buy my mum a house at the moment.

8:29 PM
@Kaz Good for you! Your mother must be proud.

Kaz
@Old_Lamplighter Weary of life is more like it. The last 20 years have not been kind to her. I'm just glad I'm finally in a position to do something about it.

@Kaz Well, I can relate to life weariness quite a bit. You are a son any parent would be proud to have.

Kaz
@Old_Lamplighter I'm trying :)

@Kaz don't sell yourself short. :D

Kaz
Still got a lot more money to make, and a lot more people to help with it ^^

8:38 PM
@Kaz I'm sure. That was always my motive for making money. That was one of the hardest things to deal with when I lost it all. Wasn't in a position to help anyone any longer.

Kaz
8:50 PM
@Old_Lamplighter How did it happen?

I got laid off two weeks before the attack on September 11, 2001. I lived in the NY metro area. I couldn't even get a job as a security guard. Add to this, the breakup of a 12 year, VERY bad relationship she was so crazy, I was afraid to leave her, it turns out the fears were justified. I spent the remainder of my life's savings defending against false charges she threw at me.
It all took a toll on me, I started to rebuild myself, and took a job for the money. It was a mistake, as it destroyed my health, both physical and mental. Then, I became homeless, and then built myself back to where I am now. Sadder, but wiser.
Actually, I met someone who helped me rebuild my life. I'm fairly happy now, and newly married

Kaz
I'm glad to hear that. Looking for a partner is next on my list, just as soon as I'm done putting my physical health on a good footing.

@Kaz Yeah, get healthy, get stable, then get a financial planner to protect you from any potential looting from a partner.
My psycho-ex took me to the cleaners. My ex-wife is killing me with child support for kids I see two weeks every year.
Just make sure you protect yourself. “Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned / Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned.”

Kaz
I've never heard the first half of that quote

Q: Offensive Language for sorta-sound-similar words?

KevinJust had a question about a recent update to one of my answers. It's not a huge deal, but: would be seen as niggling and holding back the company's bottom line was changed to: would be seen as frivolous and holding back the company's bottom line and the change (niggling to frivolous) was mar...
