@NotThatGuy If your resume said you "Dramatically improved stability", I would ask how you did that. And you would answer "Well I fixed bugs and implemented new features". Right?

12:55 AM
@JoeStrazzere Yeah, but I'm trying to make my resume more focused on results and achievements. I guess this doesn't apply so well to that point.

@NotThatGuy the purpose of a resume is to get the interview, not to tell the complete story. The complete story is for the interview.

2:25 AM
@RichardSaysReinstateMonica Sure, but I'm trying to figure out which part I should highlight. Although I've also had versions of my resume with this part removed completely, since it's pretty mediocre as far as duties and achievements go.

@RichardSaysReinstateMonica I'm sure if I analysed where my rep come from, it's dominated by a few laconic answers to questions that then went HNQ and brought floods of votes.
@RichardSaysReinstateMonica Apropo of nothing, but Elon Musk is a lying cheating narcissist who doesn't do jack s*** to help anyone other than himself.
And I say that as a former fanboy.
@NotThatGuy Nope. Not your problem.
@NotThatGuy I always find it useful, when writing a CV, to imagine my interviewer picking out every single line in turn and asking me to justify it.
If you wouldn't feel comfortable defending anything you say in an interview, then it shouldn't be in there.
The flip-side of that is that, so long as you feel you can justify and defend it, you can put down whatever you want.

@RichardSaysReinstateMonica from the little I know I doubt your family had the luxury of 'fear', clear thinking and decisive action would be more important. Fear paralyzes

Greetings from the really cold state of GA

@Kilisi Well... I don't have the right words for it then, but we certainly never had the luxery of being concerned with "first world problems"
@Kaz Oh, I know Musk does everything for his ego, but if I lived in Fliint, I'd stroke his ego quite a bit if the water got clean
@NotThatGuy The point is to not be too focused. As Joe said, you want them to get you in for the interview and explain the how, whys and wherefores. The tone of a resume is more important than the detail. Don't be overly concerned about precision
@Kilisi FYI interesting family fact, my grandmother ran away from her job because the people she worked for kept threatening to have her deported.

1:24 PM
@RichardSaysReinstateMonica I've seen real fear, people can't think or react properly. In my bouncing days if you're facing a bunch of people high on drugs and armed you need your wits about you, fear is not an option.
Tough for you granny but she made it through, so good for her, she did whatever she had to by the sounds of it.
*your
If she didn't, we wouldn't have the pleasure of your company, so that's a bonus as well

1:42 PM
@Kilisi I guess I don't know fear then, :D Because I was in situations like that, esp when I was homeless, was never paralyzed by fear.
soooo.....
.
.
Question of the day....
Which do you think applies more to the workplace, "The Peter Principle", which states that individuals rise to their level of incompetence, and say there, or "The Dilbert Principle", which states that companies systematically promote incompetent employees out of the workflow?

2:18 PM
@RichardSaysReinstateMonica you talking govt sector, private sector, first World, or something else? Huge difference depending on those factors

@Kilisi hmmmmm, any and all.

depends what you call incompetence I guess
my take is that a competent, confident person can rise regardless
don't really care about the rest... got to have stepping stones... so they fulfill a need.... when I train people I try and train them to be both competent and confident
plenty of incompetent people rise further faster though if they have the connections or other factors
but in the end we all get just a short taste of life, then back to dust. It's all about the journey
if you're not moving forwards, you're not journeying, you don't find your limits or reach your potentials, you're just a footnote in other peoples journeys
but I don't really differentiate between life and work... just subsets of a whole

2:41 PM
@Kilisi you are quite the philosopher.

2:59 PM
@RichardSaysReinstateMonica no idea, just a way of looking at work that seems reasonable, I'm only a generation or two away from a stone age savage... hehe

@Kilisi Cut the supply chain to the first world, and we're only a week away from the same thing.

3:17 PM
@RichardSaysReinstateMonica yep.... be a huge mess in some places.... just a change of pace here except the current leaders, they'd be shark food

In my very first blog post, I wrote about what a personal experience taught me about the Stack Overflow community. I said we were going to step back and re-evaluate how we deliver feedback, how we can improve content quality, and how we can reduce friction between people. I said that our goal is to have the question asking process be painless and beneficial for new people and Stack Overflow veterans alike.

During this re-evaluation period, we noticed something in our reputation reward system. We give anyone who receives an upvote on an answer ten additional reputation points, but only give five reputation points to people who receive an upvote on a question.  …

Free rep for everybody! W00t

Oh dear.
They're making it even easier for upvotes to cancel out downvotes.

@NotThatGuy Apparently, SE is going by the motto of "If it aint broke, fix it until it is!

I think I should ignore coding style inconsistencies on a PR I'm looking at because I've already requested like 70 changes on that PR and it's moved back-and-forth between in progress, code review and QA for a few weeks.
