Would it be bad (and how bad) to focus my resume on what the application I'm working on does instead of what I specifically do?
I usually try to avoid it, but I feel like this is the only way to heavily focus my resume on the skills required by the job I'm applying for.
So I'm trying to figure out whether I should rather do that or have a weaker focus.

To give an example, I might say something like "Generate missile flight path using XYZ" instead of "Rewrite script to generate missile flight path using XYZ" or "Brainstorm how to generate missile flight path". XYZ is highly relevant to the job, the latter options feel quite clunky and in some cases I might just be able to say "worked on", which doesn't feel very meaningful.
What would you think of a resume with the various statements above?

Hmm usually you want to focus on responsibilities you had there, and thing you achieved, rather than what was the product. But you can/should include how it relates to the company. So for example currently I work at a telecom company, but as Software Engineer position. I would say "Programming of [whatever product part] using [whatever technology]". I would not say "Deployment of fiber network" that is not my assignment.
@NotThatGuy So if I understand correctly that would mean your first option is ok/fine
