Q: Please require a country tag for all questions

jwwSome Stack Exchange sites seem to be more sensitive to country and sometimes states in countries like the US. I think Workplace.SE and Law.SE are two of them. Here are two sample question, and lots more exist (ad nauseam?): Is it better to have a 10 year gap or a bad reference? and Side-stepping...

6:52 AM
@motosubatsu I spoke too soon. There is someone else who also knows how to restore backups, but they're also on vacation and won't be back until after the sysadmin is back

7:29 AM
Morning all

Good morning. Another fun week in the workplace!

1 hour later…
8:50 AM
@Snow you and I have very different definitions of the word "fun" I fear

9:05 AM
@motosubatsu nice!

Anyone take pure enjoyment from creating social media content???

9:26 AM
@Twyxz depends
I hate writing social media posts but I love creating designs and visuals

yeh designs n visuals :P
The posts themselves are gonna be captioned by myself hahah but I really hate making the actual images

are you asking for help here?

Not yet
I'm currently attempting :P

attempting what? To create said visual?

YeP :O

9:38 AM
enjoy

I'm really struggling to see any form of enjoyment here
I have too much OCD for these things to be straight forward

3 hours later…
12:32 PM
Greetings....getting real close to 70K

@MisterPositive whee

@avazula Trying to pass they guy who has sat at number 9 who is no longer active.
And keep ahead of @Snow
:-}

Geez. Things are slow for me. Going to be a long time before I hit the top 10 again.

12:47 PM
@Snow yeah it has slowed down for me too. I was on a mini roll, but it seems its ran out of steam

it's been a while since I last had a jump in rep

@avazula It slowed down for me considerably when I picked up the Mod Hat.

Recent questions haven't exactly been inspiring.

@MisterPositive me too!
Actually I'm getting lots of downvotes now ^^

Yes a slew of stinkers...
Once you get high rep or Mod your a target of down vote stalkers
13 to go....
BOOM!
goal obtained!!!

1:03 PM
@MisterPositive congrats!

thanks..
:-)

Hey there!!
Any The Workplace mod here?

Two of us.
(that's like almost all of them)

Ah!! Great!!
I joined this site today only but I'm a user of SE since couple of years. So, I understand SE model very well. I posted a question here but got downvoted (I don't know why). I left a note for downvoters asking them for the reason for downvotes in case they see. I remember there were 3 votes on the comment but now it's gone.
I'm just curious to know why it was deleted. Was it flagged?
@Snow @MisterPositive I was expecting some input from you people.

1:25 PM
@Kulfy - Gregory gave you an explanation. Did that make sense to you? Also be aware, that response times may differ on different sites, especially around a weekend.

@Kulfy comments usually get flagged if they don't either ask for clarifications or suggest improvements to the post. It's likely your comment was understood as not fitting either one of those categories. Some SE sites are more strict on the fitness of comments, which may explain why you find it surprising despite your knowledge of the SE model.

@RoryAlsop Yeah that made sense. But still I see no reason of deleting that. Was it flagged offensive or something else? Just curious to know.
@avazula Hm. Makes sense.

Yes, Gregory gave an explaination for potential donwvotes there. The problem is that no one forces downvoters to give a reason, and moderators aren't mind-readers. We have to assume the reasons as much as anyone else.

I wasn't forcing. I politely asked them for their feedback which might help in improving my future posts.
And I know mods aren't mind-readers.

I'm not a mod on this site but one of the things that has become evident on others is that those who want to give an explanation do and those who don't don't. Asking them to doesn't have significant positive effect
If they don't give an explanation, just assume the reason is one of those in the mouse over text for the down vote button

1:45 PM
catching up...
I am not sure what the issue is here @Kulfy
Your question has 5 positive votes, answer, etc.....
As others have pointed out our community doesn't have to give a reason for down votes, although it would be nice.
AND @Kulfy your moderation team is voluntary, meaning we won't always be able to respond as timely as you may like. ( I think we all have full time jobs too )may

@MisterPositive When I commented there was +1 and -1, i.e., net 0. So, I was just curious to know the reason.

@Kulfy Yeah there is this phenomenon called drive by down voting. Some will just down vote based on the title and not read the question....its fickle....
AND @Kulfy when you get higher rep there is this other thing called down vote stalkers you will learn about.

@MisterPositive Yeah I know but since Snow's reply was quick to an earlier message and you were answering and editing and moderating the site, I assumed that you two are active and would have probably finished the work for the day. I waited for about 10 mins and then pinged you. Sorry if I disturbed you :)
@MisterPositive Yeah.

@Kulfy NP

@MisterPositive Not very high but I'm ~7k rep user on Ask Ubuntu :)

1:54 PM
@Kulfy I noticed that. :-)

@MisterPositive Just one thing and I'm desperate to know this. Can you please let me know the flag type (if raised) on my comment?

To be honest, the question looked more like a "please validate my interview question answer?" rather than "how do I resolve this work-related issue". Some people might downvote based on that perception since you've basically answered your own question.

It was flagged by users as not needed. And in this case I would agree. It takes a bit of time for a question to get traction here.

AND what @Snow said.
Your question has 7 up and 1 down. Not bad.

@Snow I'm not aware of the scope the site. I'll keep such questions for elsewhere. Thank you for the info :)
@MisterPositive That gave me relief. Actually I was not sure if I went out of my way and looked/became aggressive in the comment section.

@Kulfy meh. I wouldn't sweat it.

2:01 PM
Different users have different ideas about where the scope for sites lie - that's why there's variances in voting and close votes. I wouldn't take it personally, but instead look at words and responses rather than scores. Everyone suffers downvoting here.

If you were here, I would have called you two over the tea since I'm having it :P

@Kulfy you are in the presence of greatness with @Snow ;-}

Although I prefer coffee. quicker to make, and therefore to drink...

@Snow You drink WAY too much coffee my friend. Your bio says so.

@Snow Indeed. But in my case if I get downvotes afterwards, it doesn't matter. But if I get downvotes as soon as I post, it demotivates me.
Hope you understand!
@Snow Black?

2:05 PM
@Kulfy Always black. Milk dilutes.

@Snow I prefer black coffee in morning and tea in evening.

Cream and Sugar for me. I am only allowed one a day though. ( stupid doctor's orders )

A balanced diet plan

@Kulfy right...

2:23 PM
@Snow I love caffeine, but will do anything to hide the taste of coffee
So lvanilla lattes, caramel macchiatos, mochas, or plain old Red Bull are my preferred input mechanisms

@RoryAlsop Swallowing quickly works for me.

@Snow okay - in Italy a ristretto or espresso work for me, but in the UK we don't have coffee anywhere near that good

Yeah. Been many a time when I've ordered an espresso at the end of the meal only to be deeply disappointed.

Illy is pretty good and can be shipped to your address

@MisterPositive Illy is probably the best we have reasonably local (in my building we only have Starbucks, and near the house Costa) but still aren't good enough

2:27 PM
@RoryAlsop Since I cannot drink a lot of it, I can afford to be a bit of a coffee snob.

2:51 PM
@MisterPositive That's probably my problem. I can hoover caffeine
