12:04 AM
@FrankFYC depends how you phrase it I guess

1 hour later…
1:05 AM
@FrankFYC If it relates to the workplace and it's an answerable question. Just because it's a workplace question doesn't mean that we can answer it. I can tell you now from the topic, the end result will be "they're anonymous, there's really nothing you can do"

1:43 AM
@ChrisE Great... thanks for the foreshadowing, it saved me the effort writing out a question.

6 hours later…
8:00 AM
Morning all

8:16 AM
Morning

morning all

8:49 AM
Good morning. No work for me today. Hurrah.

@Snow I hate you :P

Star Wars day. Whoop.

9:05 AM
@Snow Yep.. still hating you

9:33 AM
@Snow
have you taken the day off to see Star Wars?

9:45 AM
Yes, I have.

amazing.
i've got tickets for 9:20pm tonight - it'll be a late one!
well, late for me... i'm usually in bed by 10:30pm

10:13 AM
@Snow whereas I'm stuck fighting with SSRS

i hate it when answers are downvoted but the downvoter doesn't leave a comment as to why...
my internet points are taken away!

@theonlydanever yeah it's irritating.. not much you can do about it though

Don't worry about the odd downvote, it doesnt mean anything.
SSRS. Such joy. Designing those things is like building a house of cards sometimes.

@Snow yep... currently having the joy of discovering what I thought was the one ID to rule them all actually..isnt

lol it's like a maze of twisty corridors, all alike.

10:27 AM
@Snow and all have floors coated in broken glass and salt

errors and a sense of forboding...
right, I'm out of here. have a great day!

@Snow and yourself chap :)

10:51 AM
@Snow May be the force be with u, enjoy the movie.
I still haven't watch even the first

11:18 AM
All the lush, I am invited to tea with Director
and manager is all good with me
Reminds me of the son It's just a little too late

12:04 PM
@Nofel Yeah, that often happens. Sometimes it takes leaving a situation to fix it.

@TheSnarkKnight hello
yes, I realised I was just in agony coz of the way my team works
I am dreaded by things I cannot do now for the new job as I continue to learn, and stuck on a thing but going over it again and again each day and days r passing while I am griped in fear

1 hour later…
1:17 PM
Either it is me or it is hell silent here

@Nofel yeah, pretty quiet
FEAR IS THE MIND-KILLER

I question myself @TheSnarkKnight , why do I get something in one go and another in ages

@Nofel I'm not sure I understand
but what I see is someone who has been ground down by misfortune to the point of questioning themselves into paralysis by analysis. Think less, do more.

@TheSnarkKnight If I am studying AB topic
something I get topic A so fast that I don't need revision, it's already in my head
and for Topic B
I cannot do it
it is like my mind has closed

1:33 PM
@Nofel It's the panic shutting you down. When you find you're having a problem learning something and start to feel frustrated. Close the book, turn off the computer, and walk away. If you can go for an actual walk around the neighborhood, even better. You need to get out of that panic mode before you continue.

2:03 PM
anyone around to give some advice? it's workplace related...

@theonlydanever you may approach the oracle of infinite wisdom. Or me, if you prefer.

haha, either will do
i'm trying to hand in my resignation, and booked in a meeting with my manager for 10am this morning

the meeting keeps being postponed (i think he knows what it's for), but i don't feel like it's something that can wait

@theonlydanever what country are you in?

2:13 PM
do i just let him grab me when he's free, or do i push him for a meeting?
UK

Ah, so you have gardening time to contend with, yes?
or do you not have another position lined up?

yeah, the notice period is four weeks. i have something else lined up.
it needs a meeting, rather than me just leaving an envelope on his desk

@theonlydanever then you need to press the issue with the manager. You're not going to destroy your career by being insistent. He either doesn't want to deal with it or he is busy, either way, you need to confront him as it effects your notice period.

2:26 PM
The way I did it was email my manager with subject "Resignation"
2
he didn't bother reading it and took me to 1-1
cancelling everything
@theonlydanever what do u got lined up If I may ask that u need to discuss

Kaz
@theonlydanever Very simple. Physically go and find them. Say "Hey, I need to talk to you, it's urgent". If they tell you they're busy/not free that second, make it clear that you need to see them today, and organise a time for whenever their current thing is finished.
If you get to the end of the day without that meeting, put your resignation in an email, ask to discuss it in person first thing tomorrow, and send it to them.

thanks all. i've rescheduled the 'catch-up' meeting i invited him to as a gentle reminder... and he's been out of the office since then
i'm actually hosting interviews with him later today, so it will definitely happen
i just wanted it to happen this morning to get it out of the way
but also to not sideline him just before we interview together

@theonlydanever It might be not in his thought that ur resigning
I wanted to talk to my manager but he was busy in meetings, unless I had to email him

Kaz
@theonlydanever If you're going to be doing interviews with him, I would probably take him aside before, and just say "Hey, once we're done with the interviews, I need to talk to you about something". Having that discussion before a scheduled meeting is only going to cause problems. But you also don't want to spring it on them immediately afterwards, in case they have urgent plans.

2:46 PM
done.

@theonlydanever Gratz! Now you get cookies!

i'd love a cookie right now

I had last night
triple choclate
fudging it was good

i have a hobnob flapjack in front of me... it's no triple chocolate, but it'll do!

My diabetes is raging, no cookies for me ;(

2:53 PM
any cookie will do
@TheSnarkKnight back inpakistan we got salted ones

morn

moo

Morning

mornin
or afternoon over here in civilisation

3:09 PM
@motosubatsu We 'muricans revel in our glorious lack of civilization. Less to rebuild every time we tear it down.

@TheSnarkKnight it's a time saver if nothing else

4:02 PM
@TheSnarkKnight I think I am done on that other site.

@MisterPositive yeah, the BJ question was WAAAAY over the top, and it's a bit too PC for me as well.
@MisterPositive am I being to sensitive, or does it seem rather... combative over there?

See my biggest problem with that site is its not clear enough what is and isn't on topic.
and yes, combative seems to be a good description. ( at least today )
AND I don't like how strict they are with comments.

4:24 PM
@MisterPositive they also seem deaf to advice, so, time to step back a bit.

My opinion is that they're all know-it-alls, regardless of life experience. Just like most people I've known under 25 (including myself).
I always told my kids when they were teens, "in 5 years when you're 20, you'll look back and say "I was such an idiot at 15 and 5 years after that you'll say, "I can't believe how stupid I was at 20"
For me, I was about 27 before I wasn't an idiot (relative to getting older)
Sadly, I had 4 kids by then and 2 marriages.

@ChrisE truer words were never spoken. My old coworker always used to say about a younger coworker "don't try to tell him anything, he's at the 'stupid age'" and he was right.

@ChrisE I'm 36 and still an idiot

We always used to say "Elect a teenager president while they still know everything"
2

@motosubatsu I'm going to be 50 next year and I'm wise because I was so stupid for so long.

4:29 PM
Something my mom told me growing up that I never understood until later (obv) is, "It was amazing to me how much smarter my parents got from the time I was 17 to 25. Remarkable, really." :)

Now, we're trying to convince two milenials in my SO's family not to be idiots.
2
One just got diagnosed with bipolar
The bipolar one thinks he can self medicate with psychedelic mushrooms and pot.

@TheSnarkKnight you were learning. Edison said his 10,000 unsuccessful attempts to create a light bulb weren't failures at all. He learned 10,000 things that wouldn't work.

@TheSnarkKnight ouch

The other one went on a trip with some pot and didn't like it. At least the second recognizes the error of his ways.

@TheSnarkKnight My 22 yo just last month decided "maybe I need my ADD medicine after all" because he hated it as a teen. "My friends think I'm more fun without it"

4:31 PM
@ChrisE not only was I learning, but I think I burned off enough Karma for the next 3 lives.

you mean accumulated bad?

@ChrisE I'm a lot more fun off of my meds too. Just very destructive and ineffecgive.
@ChrisE yes, I burned off so much bad Karma, the next three lives should be King, Billionaire, and some sort of religious icon.

Oh, you mean you were good during that time.
People with ADD are always more fun off their meds. They're flighty, spontaneous, uncontrolled and reckless. They take risks that their friends don't which improves their social standing.

@ChrisE Aspergers is often misdiagnosed as ADHD. We can go off the rails too. If I didn't take Ativan, my brain would be going faster than I could handle it. I'm funny as hell though.
I like it here, much calmer
The difference between a wise man and a fool is that a wise man has doubts

A: Signing Bonus Tax Question

EuraHow this bonus will get paid out should have been explain during the onboarding/orientation process. Most if not all sign on bonuses are paid out in increments. You will not get it in a lump sum. NICE!! if so, but NOT!. Since you share that you are getting a $5,000 bonus. It is likely that it wil...

that person really has a lot of specific facts for something totally vague from the OP, lol

1 hour later…
6:00 PM
^God this is such a sanity saver sometimes.
I imagine you might know that one @enderland? :)

trying to forget those days... haven't even thought about SAP for a looong time @Lilienthal :D

6:34 PM
@enderland Hello sir

@Lilienthal I had to work with SAP once. It wasn't long before we were all referring to it as "Stupid @ss program"

Can't say I blame either of ye. :)

I strongly suggest you go watch Star Wars

7:47 PM
I plan on seeing it on Sunday or Monday.

7:59 PM
@TheSnarkKnight I took a crack at your question on the "other" site. Hopefully its at least a bit useful.

@MisterPositive I doubt it will get much attention as it has no politics or anyone with evil intent in it :/

too bad. actually a good legit question..
