@enderland It depends on the industry I suppose. At least in IT about 10% attrition per year seems to be the norm here. It isn't as bad as it looks from the outside. People switch jobs about every 3 years, and I would say it is a good thing. :)
I work for a small company, where we recently had a change of managers. The new manager has no experience managing developers, and the old manager has moved into a development role to fill in gaps left by senior developers leaving the company and being unable to find replacements.
I was recently...
Just curious. In theory, I'd leave. But in theory, I could get more leaving where I am today, but I feel like I need to build some more tenure with the firm.
@AaronHall It isn't particularly worse than the other off-topic questions over here. That doesn't mean, of course, that it shouldn't be deleted, but we would have to clean up a lot of the others too ... some time.
I only had my job last month and resigned today due to not liking my job. I submitted my resignation to my hr managers (im contractual) and Im going to leave the company where I was deployed on for good after 3 weeks from now.
Now I have pending and upcoming interviews that I am expecting this we...
@enderland Can a mod, I don't know, rig an intervention for this guy or something? :\
I can't quite tell if this user is clueless about workplace norms (and choosing to remain so after 5+ downvotes questions on this site) or some sort of misguided troll.
Hmm, perhaps that's unkind of me. His questions seem to be legitimate it's just that he doesn't seem to want to hear any actual answers. :|
Moderating can be a thankless task, so I thought I'd drop a quick note of thanks for doing a good job of it here.
I've seen a lot of questions on Workplace.SE that touch on sensitive and controversial subjects, which some moderators would just freak out at and close, lock and/or delete. The Wor...
@Lilienthal He has essentially one question, which he keeps asking every few days, choosing a different description and title each time. He joined a new job recently, he doesn't like it, he wants to change jobs, but due to being new, he is having trouble absenting from work to attend interviews. He just wants to know what's a good way to sneak out without getting into trouble.
I am pretty sure he is neither a troll not does he not understand this site. My overall impression is he is convinced he is always right and just wants us to confirm that he is. Since he isn't getting that kind of responses here, his self-esteem is hurt.
They sent the offer mail today, and I spoke to a friend who works there, he says there is growth...
Now the dilemma is, the notice period where I am working right now is 3 months. But the new company wants me to join on 28th September.
What they have written in the offer is - if you join before 31st September, you will be eligible for appraisal in April 16.
Now I don't want to be bad/mean/offending to my current employer, even if there are problems I want to show their company is good etc and leave as CLEANLY as possible. How do I do so?
@Lilienthal Sadly, lots of folks come here looking for answers that bolster their pre-determined opinions. A few of those who don't get the answers they seek respond like Jack.
I see that you're in India so the workpalce norms might be different as the linked question is related to the UK, but it might be useful reading.
In general though, I would advise you to not break the expected notice period at your current employer unless you're willing to burn that bridge when it comes to future references, contacts and work.
Any reasonable employer will also not make a problem of you working out your notice period as they would like you to do the same for them if you end up resigning at that new position in the future.
@MaskedMan and @JoeStrazzere : Agreed, I guess that's basically what Jack's looking to get out of the questions he posts here.
And finally, @EnthusiasticStudent have a look through the questions in the job-search tag to see if they are any help.
If you don't find anything useful, go ahead and ask in here if you feel like you don't know how to word it in an actual question on the main site.
Chat isn't that active these days but I'm sure someone will see it if you post here and try to get you on the right track to posting a full question or give some advice if you just need some input.
