My first suggestion would be to stop referring to them as your "subordinates". They are members of your team and you are the lead. That is different than a manager position in most places. Your job is to direct their efforts and lead the team. — Chad Nov 25 '13 at 16:40

The key to moderation is, well, moderation. If you can convince and encourage someone to improve their post, even if the improvements don't make it perfect, that's a win for you, a win for that someone, and a win for Workplace SE.

@jmort253: Agreed. Unilateral action should be rare and should only occur after careful deliberation.

Q: Make hot questions with multiple answers age away faster on smaller / subjective-ish sites

gnatDue to extended exposure to wide SE network, hot questions tend to attract certain amount of low quality answers. These answers would better be (and eventually are) removed, but on smaller / subjective-ish sites removal takes quite a lot of time due to limitations in moderation power and inadequa...

Hello. Welcome to the Workplace SE. On our site, we prefer answers to be standalone. Since we're not a discussion forum, answers are ordered by their score, not by timeline. This makes it awkward to refer to previous answers using words like "above" or "previous". I instead did some editing that I believe supports your perspective. The information is valuable and you make good points! See about for a more detailed overview of how our site works. Hope this helps. — jmort253 9 secs ago

@jmort253 He makes a good point

@RhysW Absolutely. Plus, it's nice when all a flagged post really needs is a little TLC and editing.

hello people

I have a question for you while you are here actually jmort

The ones where you don't need to necessarily be the op to fix the problem are the best.
Sure.
What's up?

I've never seen something more terrible, badly thought and poorly executed

A lot of the time in teh low quality queue things pop up that you have already seen and commented on, but the only buttons are 'its fine' (which it isnt but youve already pointed out), 'needs deletion' (which doesnt feel right because they havent had a chance to respond) or skip, which doesnt feel right for the first reason, what do you think we should do in these situations?
@PatoSáinz Depends where they were applying! haha

@RhysW Hasbro IT team?

@RhysW Great question. I'm not sure I have an answer to that at this time.
Basically, not everything needs to be deleted.

10:17 PM
Yeah, i've been using skip liberally
but it feels like a flaw in the system as it punishes those using the review queue, as skip gives no numbers (doesnt bother me but to some i can see it coming across as an incentive to vote to delete anyway)

Some things I look at and see where, even if it's not perfect or all that great, it could still be improved.
Me commenting on it doesn't necessarily imply I plan to do anything about it... maybe I need to include that in the comments more. I do sometimes specify the difference between a "suggestion" and "hey, this really needs to be fixed otherwise it might have to go away."

@jmort253 Yeah, I don't read it as you planning to come back, but you giving the op a chance to fix it before the community comes down on it, so feels wrong when that chance is removed for them only moments later

I'd love to see more cases where people can see what it is the person intended to say or do and if they're a subject matter expert, just go grab a quick citation from somewhere....
So perhaps an extra thing the post notice review queue should do is remove posts from the other queues for X number of hours....

Q: Improving the System for Dealing with Poor Answers

jmacSo it's no shock that we have a lot of poor answers here. We are having issues with understanding the current flagging, and problems with old questions with lots of bad answers. Kismet brought jmort, Shog9, and myself in to chat at the same time, where we had a discussion on the issue of poor an...

I do see things get re-flagged after I've cleared them....

@jmort253 Yeah thats what i was thinking, a 24 hour timer to give them a chance to rectify the issue,

or after another mod has cleared the flag.

10:23 PM
has jmac written a post about everything!?

@RhysW lol, yes. I think he has. :)
@PatoSáinz That's... interesting.
They say in this economy you have to do what you can to stand out.
The right startup might be impressed. I can see that working for someone, although I don't think that would be my startup. :)

@RhysW A MLP resume isn't "rebellious", "subversive", "contrarian" nor "edgy"

I don't recal saying it was, sorry if it came across that way!

@RhysW oh. No problem :)

A job hunt is just as much finding a job you want, as finding a job that wants you, any place willing to select them out because of that might not be somewhere they want to work (or atleast, that could be their thinking)
