I live in Vancouver, BC, and we're due for a HUGE earthquake sooner or later. I'm uphill as well, and we have a pretty big island shielding us. But, we've had smaller province-wide emergencies the past few months, and it goes to show us how unprepared we are.

The earthquake would be offshore at this latitude (as opposed to inland down south in California)). But that's not the only threat we're facing. If I recall correctly, the Mount St. Helen volcano is due for an big eruption as well sometime as well....
