Man, I never installed the CSS rollback user script on this PC and the site just looks so hideous. How is this still in place? :0
@LastStarDust You're just looking for career advice so modifying the question is unlikely to help.Chat input can sometimes be helpful but chat is dead quiet over the weekend usually. :) I'd sooner check out some relevant forums or subreddits for this type of question.
@JohnConnor You may want to check the Software Engineering site and its chat for this topic, it's probably come up before.
Generally I would say that your primary focus in higher education should be to ace your exams. That means your first focus should be on your curriculum.
And sounds like that means Java for you.
Studying additional concepts and languages if they interest you or you might use them later is certainly worthwhile as long as you're careful that you avoid that "distraction" you refer to.
I'd talk to your college/uni about some of this to see if they can give advice or provide input on potential projects to take on and the like.
Certain courses might allow you to program in a different language if you clear it up front. Though of course it can make things harder as you might have less support then.
If you already know that you want to pursue a certain technology stack once you graduate it makes sense to invest personal time in learning it or adding it to your curriculum.
