Q: How does The Workplace view the issue of concealing vs revealing personal identity when asking questions?

Gabriel StaplesI'd like to ask some questions about interpersonal conflict in the work-place--some topics and points which may make me look bad or weak, and others which may make others look bad or weak. As you can see, my real name is my profile name. Obviously, when discussing others, I won't use their real n...

@Old_Lamplighter well done breaking into triple figures with the gold badges (Y) Good stuff

@Kilisi, thanks. I didn't even realize I did. I also have the dubious honor of having a small mob from skeptics trying to take down a three month old post. I think I have an established Hatedom

The initial creator of C++ is still in academia, but over the years, the language has been shaped by a committee, which I think has about 30 members at the moment.
As for Javascript (rather ECMAScript), as a language it's not the best but it's been getting better. Note that use in web pages is the most common application of javascript, but it's not the only one.
Also, fucked if I know what "software engineering in academia" means. With the exception of experimental and academic programming languages, I don't view there being any difference.

@GregoryCurrie is there a better way of doing dynamic stuff with php pages than javascript?
@Old_Lamplighter I think you had a typo... should be small-minded mob of septics ;)

@Kilisi Good thing I wasn't drinking my coffee when I read that

@Kilisi wow, I surfed over to that question they asked. The amount of navel gazing is amazing.

@Kilisi There have been a few attempts at wrapping javascript to make it easier to use, such as with Typescript or Kaffine. If you're doing anything non-trivial, that's probably what you should be looking at. Otherwise, you probably should be using JQuery to make the javascript you write more managable.
But if you have a workflow that seems to work for what you need, I suppose don't change it.
But at the very least, you should look at JQuery, if you're not using it already.

@GregoryCurrie I just use vanilla javascript, I tried using libraries and jquery but things froze intermittently, probably the connection here which is crap

2:28 PM
Yeah. JQuery really just helps with things on the client side, so it shouldn't be impacted by a slow connection, but whatever works for you
