How's everyone on this monday

@Magisch kinda meh.. bit of a headache this morning which angularbs is not helping with, you?

better then last week, back at work, still nursing the aftermath of bronchitis
thank the lord for ibuprofen

@Magisch truly! glad to hear you're on the mend!

12:00 PM
thanks
a fair chunk of people over 'ere freaking about the coronavirus
on another note, it's rather quiet for election season here, in the chatroom and on meta, right?

@Magisch yeah, although I'm inclined to think that'st not a bad thing - given everything recently I reckon noisy would just mean drama

it will be interesting to see how the # of voters compares this week
numbers on that will be available early next week and anecdotally live
(you know I'm a sucker for statistics ;) )

12:22 PM
@DarkCygnus Best get yourself in sir, you got 7ish hours left!

@Magisch Unfortunately, not much to be done about it. I did some research and talked to some friends who used to deal with biological agents. Basically, short of locking yourself indoors for a few months, you're probably going to catch it if it's around.
Given that, best thing you can do is make sure your diet contains plenty of Vitamin C (Fruit/Veg) and Zinc (any kind of meat, or beans/grains/nuts/dairy) every day. Get some antivirals from your local doctor or hospital if you catch it, and be prepared to ride out a bad flu potentially at home depending on how overwhelmed the health system is.

Im just coming off bronchitis
which was unfun

Separately, depending on how bad you think it might get and what your local infrastructure is like, some cautious prepping (bottled water, canned/dried foods, essential medicines and supplies) might be called for.

you know, my dad has been pestering me about exactly the same thing
he insisted that I get bottled water, canned nuts & dried fruit and some other canned goods, toiletries and medicine
it seemed like overkill, but these supplies are always usable, so now I have like 6 weeks of dried food and water at home
well the water is coming tomorrow
I don't think my local infrastructure is going under
It does seem like the coronavirus will go through the EU like a flu wave otherwise would with heavier effects, which will be unfun

Yeah, I’m just outside London so not too concerned. But quite happy to load up on stuff I’ll eventually use anyway. Doesn't really cost me anything and if things really do go sideways I’ll have peace of mind and be in a position to help the people I care about.

5:51 PM
ultimately, having extra long lasting food just means I'll have to buy an equivalent of food less later

6:43 PM
@MisterPositive Done, Sir

6:55 PM
o/ @DarkCygnus
I'll withhold my opinion to avoid the appearance of impropriety

I'm going to think really hard for the next 50 mins if I apply or not, knowing very well if I do I wouldn't vote for myself.
meh. Ill just skip the trouble

@ArthurHavlicek probably a good move.

7:16 PM
I think part of why I wanted to do it is just to voice opinion about current issues in twp. I had no expectation to win whatsoever.

@ArthurHavlicek A Meta post would be better suited for that.

I agree.
I'm probably going to make one. Going to IPS kind of opened my eyes about things that are a bit dysfunctional right now.
Give me a few hours. :P

Q: How do we raise the quality standards for answers?

Arthur HavlicekI witnessed a common phenomenomn where an objectively poor quality answer gets widely upvoted because people believe it's funny or because they approve people being salty toward OP. Advocating OP to quit his job has also been a common trope in the workplace in the past. I wonder to an extent if ...

ah, I believe my question is poorly worded, your answer isn't what I would expect
or maybe not, i don't know, it is valid answer, but not just a complete one
@DarkCygnus I edited my question for clarity, you may want to edit your answer. I'm sorry for inconvenience

Pfff. This is a difficult election. Usually I vote in the first few days but I suspect that like Cygnus' nomination my ballot will go down to the wire. ;)
