5:05 AM
Good Morning TWP!!

1 hour later…
6:20 AM
It's a miracle, I've kept the consecutive logins going despite going to Hong Kong and being off work for 20 days

7:13 AM
@Twyxz Hiya
but you're still blue
and I guess you have a mobile app

Nope just kept logging in
I'm actually orange
the site is just updating :P

7:37 AM
@Twyxz Ah, I see it now

2 days left, if you know you know ;)

hello folks

@Kepotx Hello

damn, new colour today

morning
I'm wondering why workplace.stackexchange.com/a/134239 isn't deleted, possibly as r/a
I read the meta discussion and comments underneath it, personally I'd be teethering between rude flag and normal deletion, not leaving it up and certainly not it getting 90 upvotes, what on earth

7:45 AM
25 downvotes

Still undeleted, still positive score. The entire thing should be deleted, only question is should the poster also be banned or left alone

I saw the title the other day but I never opened the question
WHY did I not open the question...

the cynic in me says if anyone from twitter gets wind of this TWP is in deep trouble
because damn there is bad optics but this is on a whole nother level

8:04 AM
The most recent question is proving difficult to answer
A lot of DV's very little feedback

imho, keeping it for yourself is a good advice, report accusation to HR is a bit too far

The thing goes well beyond keeping it to yourself
disgusting and unethical as gaslighting is, even that part of the answer pales in comparison to the suggestion to abuse HRs aversion to lawsuits to just ruin the witness's entire career in response

There's something strange about this recent question
There seems to be two groups of people
And they're all just counteracting each others votes

I hate to be that guy but if you come at that answer and question from the outside, you could get the following framing: "So a guy did something supremely inappropriate at work and it was possibly witnessed by a female coworker. How does stack exchange propose to remedy the situation? Not to come clean, but to double down and try to pressure her into not reporting it, and failing that working, threaten to throw all the weight of his seniority and threats of lawsuits around to get her to back"
"down or ruin her career". Now thats a sensationalist but not entirely baseless view of the situation.
What do you think happens if this gets outside attention?

But atm the OP is unsure
that's the whole thing
If mentioned 100% he should come clean
if not, then you can never be sure

8:11 AM
Thats not the answer stack exchange has given though
assume the perspective of an outsider, what do they see? The answer is still at +69, and low rep users cant see vote breakdowns
3

it will soon reach second rank, and isn't the accepted answer

But the answer is saying exactly that, pretend it didn't happen. The only thing it misses is what to do if it does happen to be the case that she witnessed it

Thats a pretty big miss still
one of the properties of highly upvoted SE questions is people adapt the advice within to similar but not equivalent situations. It's not a stretch to assume someone accused of something similar would find that and go "well this seems like a way to get out unscathed".

@Twyxz this. While not very ethical, such as the act itself, it will help the OP. If the female dude never make "false" accusation, no harm done

Also, the advice to not kick the ball off yourself is represented in the accepted answer, so the other one adds no value

8:17 AM
well, they are not exactly the same

I might add an extension in my own answer
2 days old but still active

accepted one is "you don't know what she witnessed, so better say nothing" while the other is more 1984-ish as a comment said

@Snow Morning Snowy

Morning. Well, it sure sucks to be back at work.

I think the other is such bad advice and bad optics that it should be nuked from low orbit
before it gets external reactions and kicks off another wave of nonsense targeted at SE

8:20 AM
easter monday is a public holiday in UK too?

yep @Kepotx
and good Friday

depends on what you consider a good answer. You can alter memory with lies, including your own memory, so it is a perfectly valid answer to deny everything, but can be seen borderline-ethical. Harm other people's career to defend yourself is unethical, but is still a valid way to handle the situation

I pretty much trust Monica's judgment there. She didn't delete the answer. The question itself smells awfully of being made up. People do this kind of thing at the weekend as they know there's less people around to get things closed.
3

I think its a bad idea and supremely bad optics to leave it up
And the fact that it was left up is quite surprising and disconcerting to me

To be fair, I have had a lot of these cases in my workplaces I've been in
Store cupboards, toilets, staffrooms
It's actually a pretty common things these days hahahaha
Damn the review queues are pretty much empty for once, someones on the ball

8:57 AM
Is that square is B&Q orange or Orange Mobile orange?

Bit of both really, you want a paint brush? We got that. You want a SIM card? We got you!
2 days till end game
and I can say I'm a little excited to spend 3 hours of my time in a dark black room with hundreds of nerds

There won't be hundreds of nerds in with you. They'll be in the next screen watching Endgame.

Ahhahahahahahahhahahaha
It's early ._.
Oof, like it was never there

I have my ticket sorted out for Thursday.

I saw the holy trinity of cars in Hong Kong

9:01 AM
morning all

In the flesh
Firequacker

indeed

First time I've ever seen any of the 3 in person
And saw all 3 in 2 weeks

Capri, Cortina, Escort?

is there anywhere in HK you can actually drive them, or is it like people who pootle around inner london in lambos

9:04 AM
@Snow Corsa, Vectra, Astra
@motosubatsu Yeah on the roads, if you have money, the police pretend you don't exist
and if you do get caught, have some cash handy

took me a while to understant that Capri, Cortina and Escort were car names and not superheroes names. Sorry, total noob on both subject

Sigh. I forget that people are young.

@Kepotx What do you mean? Cortina is the thing that talks back to you
(sarcasm)

@Snow not sure that's related to my young age. I struggle to remember the brand of my own car

A: Co-worker works way more than he should

newguyIt doesn't matter if he enjoys or hates the job but there are rules like no work on public holidays that shouldn't be broken as that maybe against the law of the land. In some cases it can also create bad name for the company for over working and create a culture of overworking like how it is in...

I flagged gnashers comment
but it was rather funny

9:12 AM
@Twyxz it's gone now.. what did it say?

"I upvoted to annoy you"

@Twyxz gnasher said it to Sourav Ghosh

yeah

I'm working at home today, and have electricians in to do some work. All the power is off except for two sockets (laptop and internet). I'm denied coffee.

Why are you denied coffee?

9:16 AM
@newguy Because coffee requires hot water
and hot water requires a socket, in most cases

Oh here we use natural gas usually for cooking

@Snow um.. can you not use the laptop on battery for long enough to plug in your coffee apparatus and do it's thing?

Or just stop working, and have a coffee in peace
Sounds good to me

@Twyxz You can boil the water on the gas as well right

Work isn't important anyway
@newguy Yeah but that's using your brain
Snow doesn't have coffee, therefore brain isn't working

9:21 AM
LOL

@motosubatsu I test drove an RS5

@Twyxz verdict?

@motosubatsu Too slow tbh :P
However I did hear talk of a Clio RS 2019
and that sounds like a go kart to me... And I like go karts

Papa?

@Snow Nicole?

9:29 AM
@avazula Ava stalking post 10:00 am

@Twyxz oh, now you're orange! yay!

@Twyxz blasphemy! hehe.. j/k, if it's not for you it's not for you

@motosubatsu Nah I liked it hahaha it was nice

@Twyxz was it a recent one? (so V6 TFSI)

Yep brand new
well
ish
I want to have a go of a C63AMG as well
But the Clio is definitely getting an upgrade, to another Clio if the publically release a CLio RS 19
A paddleshift renault Clio? What more could you need

9:31 AM
@Twyxz I've not drive a C63.. but they look and sound awesome and have a stellar reputation
@Twyxz I think I must be getting boring.. I rarely use the paddles in the RS5

It's not as curvy as the other Mercs, sharper edges
and I like that
@motosubatsu But that isn't a Clio :P
Do you just let it run in auto
@avazula Forever changing

@Twyxz I concur.. something's gone a bit squiffy in the Merc design dept, the back end of the current C-class is awful - and it doesn't match the front half either
@Twyxz most of the time yes.. I'll switch into "manual" mode if I'm out for a B-road blast or I'll tap a paddle if I need a gearchange at a point where I'm anticipating something that I can see (but obviously the 'box can't) but other than that I just the the computer do it's thing

@motosubatsu Yeah that's what I mean, the C-class back end looks weird. Like really weird

@Twyxz all unnecessarily droopy

I think once you use the paddles a few times the novelty just wears off
Car goes fast enough as it is
The difference on such a quick car is not a lot if you use the paddles
couple of miliseconds probably
@motosubatsu Everyone seems to like the C-Class design as well

9:45 AM
@Twyxz yep.. in fact in the hands of all but the best drivers using the paddles is going to be slower than not
@Twyxz I certainly see enough of the fugly things around!

@motosubatsu But they're paddles, makes you feel like you're fast :)
@motosubatsu The C63 Has a flatter back and is a lot more square in my opinion, looks a lot better but comes with a much greater price tag

@Twyxz they're worth it just for the nice throttle blip on downshifts

@motosubatsu I mean most C classes are pretty reliable, even the old ones there's still plenty of those on the roads with the badge shooting out of the bonnet

@Twyxz yeah barring a few years at the start of last decade where things got a bit wobbly Merc are generally pretty reliable

They want to be with the cost of parts and repairs @motosubatsu

10:00 AM
@Twyxz yeah not cheap things to run - although not particularly any worse than a comparable BMW or Audi

I wouldn't mind an I8, didn't like it to begin with but it's really grown on me
Obviously that's not a next car in reality but still

@Twyxz they look great in the metal IMO

Merc don't really have a "super car" that's available to publicly purchase do they? BMW have the I8, Audi the R8, even nissan have the GTR. The closest thing I can think of is the AMG GT
I would like to see Nissan release a saloon car

@Twyxz the GT counts I'd say, as does the S65 coupe

I guess so
It's still pretty ugly
Finally hit 15k rep

10:19 AM
@Twyxz congrats :)

10:41 AM
Greetings

Just about morning @MisterPositive

I need coffee....congrats on 15K

@MisterPositive I need sleep I think, can't stop thinking about cheesecake
..and I don't even like cheesecake...

10:59 AM
@Twyxz sleep is good.. as is cheesecake

@motosubatsu but so is driving around like a chav in my ST

11:11 AM
@motosubatsu Agreed.....cheese cake...

12:06 PM
Finally updated my SE Profile bio
So bored, coming back to work was a stupid idea

Q: One night relation found to be the married project leader

DF4542 and a half months ago I changed job, moving to a new city, far away. I arrived in the new city a few days before my supposed starting date and the weekend before my supposed starting date I went out, looking for fun (adult fun …). In a local club I met a woman, a few drinks, one thing leads to...

Inputs anyone?

@Twyxz looks like a thinly veiled "I had sex!!" brag to me
CBA with that sort of crap
fresh account.. lots of unnecessary salacious details.. YAWN

@Twyxz Its a story there is no real question their

Funny
Did you see the tagged counterpart question?
Let's close this one before it reaches that sort of level I guess

and... it's gone
nice one @MisterPositive

That was pretty quick

12:45 PM
@motosubatsu Not sure what your talking about... ;-)

must have been some shenanigans beyond the improbable story

@IDrinkandIKnowThings Seems like we are having a rash of these types of questions....

@MisterPositive possibly an itchy rash? in ahem private areas?

perhaps...they do make ointment for that I believe....

Probably his plan all along

Q: Co-worker works way more than he should

supersoftI work in a research facility in Germany. I have lots of co-workers that are from other countries, mostly part of some international collaborative research projects. There's one guy from China who's in his office almost every day including the weekend and also stays pretty late. I live more or l...

another story posing as a question

@IDrinkandIKnowThings it's not particularly well worded but I think it's closer to having an actual question in it than the other one
although I see it's already attracted the local village idiots who are spouting their usual brand of crap

Does anyone ever wonder if most of these questions are just fake accounts from a high rep existing user?
I personally think Moto gets a kick out of it

1:07 PM
@Twyxz lol.. I barely have time to post from my own account let alone create sock puppets and invent such wibble

whats the history behind name + ava btw @moto ?

Covering his tracks
It sounds like something you would write
the next one - "I have a nice car, girls love me how do I stop my manager from coming on to me because of my car"

I know someone who relishes in his work and has to be physically prevented from putting in 80 hour weeks
granted, they work for a nonprofit, but still

name + ava?

the name motosubatsu with the burning duck

1:11 PM
oh avatar
I remember him telling the story but I cant' remember the story so do enlighten us @motosubatsu

@Magisch the name comes from a joking comment a friend made about my car a few years back (the context would take waaayyy too long to explain and would bore you to tears) and I kinda liked it so it stuck. The avatar.. at a previous contract the company held a charity rubber duck race and everyone drew a name out of the hat for "their" duck and mine was called "Firequacker" so it amused me to create an avatar around the name

1:29 PM
Guessing it links to Subaru

@Twyxz indeed

@motosubatsu If you were to get a new car now, what would it be and why

@Twyxz don't know tbh.. I'm still rather enjoying the RS5 and I haven't really had the itch

Oooof, wrong answer!

1:51 PM
The newest question has been the newest question for so long that my mediocre answer is still getting votes
-4
Q: Is it true that fathers dont care about their kids after their mother dies?

AllieI notice when the mother dies then the father just remarries and forgets about his kids in general. When fathers die, the mother still look after the kids.

This is so odd

@Twyxz popped my head into IPS earlier and saw that one, it's good to see that IPS continues it's run as the general toilet of the network

I've only just noticed, has Richard left?
What kind of stupid question is that anyway

@Twyxz yeah

@motosubatsu I was thinking who is retired codger
His retirement post wasn't really well taken either

2:09 PM
@motosubatsu :'(

same as his previous meta post

@motosubatsu Look who's talking considering this weekend's HNQ
2
IPS is trying hard and there are lots of good people there, I think.
3

As every SE site, we sometimes get terrible bad contributions from new users. The issue is that those bad contributions can go terribly wrong due to the nature of IPS

TOXIC

@Twyxz Did someone summon Britney?

2:20 PM
unethical

@Magisch oh TWP runs it a close second for some awful questions no doubt, and I have no doubt there are some people who are working very hard and doing their best to make IPS work

@motosubatsu :D

@avazula It's Britney B**ch

@motosubatsu the problem I see with IPS is indeed some clickbaity/oddish question rather than the active community

@avazula it's no secret that I have had my.. unpleasant experiences with people on IPS. But that doesn't mean I don't want it to succeed

2:23 PM
@motosubatsu I know :/
We sure need to work on how to make the site more inclusive to everyone, including valuable users from other communities across the network
it ain't easy though

@avazula definitely.. I don't know what the answer is so I won't pretend to know how to make it work
I just know that of all the various stacks I've contributed to it's the only one where I felt seriously unwelcome - that said I know better than to venture into SO! :D

3:06 PM
:/
I'd really would like to be able to make you feel welcomed

@avazula and genuinely I really appreciate that.. and FWIW you are definitely not one of the people/reasons why my experiences there didn't go well

4 hours later…
7:32 PM
I know nothing about Amazon or their hiring process but let me answer your question about that anyway....

2 hours later…
9:22 PM
@Snow Monica wasn't sure whether to mod-hammer it or wait for the community to take it down (given recent meta complaints about moderators actually moderating), so wanted to consult another mod, but it was the weekend...
