Martin BonnerThis question has been edited by a diamond moderator in a way that invalidates the top-voted answer. Given the question as it now stands, my reaction tends towards "give your colleague a heads up". Given the question that the OP actually asked, I think the answer "stop poking your nose in where...

[ENTERING SLEEP MODE]

nope never heard of it

@MisterPositive is that automated by a bot or do you type it out?

@Magisch He trained his dog to type it out when he starts to drop off to sleep.

Copy paste, the dog, who knows? @Magisch

2:39 PM
@MisterPositive you presumably do

@Magisch I copy and paste

Programme Manager: "Maybe we could make a hangman style coding game to maybe help people get into programming from schools".
Senior Developer: "I'm sure we could do that I'd just need to think about it.
Me: "I could probably develop something basic within the next 10 mins if you let me return to my desk for 5 and i'll be back towards the end of the meeting"
Done, time to spare. Check workplace :) Priorities

@Twyxz Yup - Prios!

@MisterPositive they just finally dug up dirt on keanu reeves. It seems he's been secretly funding children's hospitals

@RichardU ?? They best not mess with Neo..

didn't keanu also fund a school and had the administration sign NDAs not to disclose it was him

There are a lot of Rich folks that do good who don't want to deal with the media.
I would not want to deal with media and I am not rich nor famous.

3:20 PM
@Magisch After he hit it big. He took a break from acting to take a job as a bartender so he could stay grounded.
@MisterPositive I knew one company where you wouldn't get far if you weren't active in charity.
and the company didn't do it for fame either.

good for him, I guess. all the money hasn't turned him into a pompous jerk

@Magisch money only makes you more of what you already are. If you're a jerk, you'll be a bigger one.
The 90's rap star "MC HAMMER" lost all of his money by being too generous. He
is a minister now
The one thing I miss more than anything about being fairly well off is the fact that I can't help people the way I once did.

@RichardU morning. helping comes in many forms, money, knowledge, advice

@RichardU I give where I can, but I don't want recognition for it. I give because there is a need, and sometimes I can, not for attention.

@MisterPositive yes, I donated anonymously many times myself. Those who make a big splash of it, or do it for recognition aren't being good, they're being utillitarian.

3:27 PM
@RichardU Agreed.

@Nofel Sorry I wasn't around. I got another suspension. For what, I have no idea though. One of my chat comments was deleted, but I got no notice, just a two day kiickout.
@MisterPositive When the news broke about Keanu, I wasn't surprised. I heard rumors that he was nice. I know people who are in the entertainment industry, so I get all the gossip. Only two things ever came up about Keanu Reeves. 1) He's a nice guy. 2)Nothing bad is ever said about him

@RichardU I like all his stuff.

@RichardU that how its shld be

3:42 PM
There is donation and donation, I don't donate to companies that fight global hunger with 76M$ in bank and has open letter from all around the world of guys on the field trying to get the food and logistic. When you Watch the taxe declaration of the most famous one it's quite incredible.
Build a new office in paris, ask you to give more to replenish the emergency fund… At least Goshn gave to <strike> his sister</strike> charity.

@xdtTransform I don't give to big charities either, except gently used stuff to Goodwill

Btw so many charity on twitch those day. What's the catch? Does the streamers declare those as donation to reduce their taxes or it's just for publicity?

@xdtTransform I've paid people's rent in the past. You're right it's better to help people you know need help,
@MisterPositive I help the salvation army. That's the only big one I help. They helped me when I was homeless.

4:10 PM
@RichardU true, our first relatives who r in need, we should help.

4:36 PM
Morning folks
@RichardU hey Richard know what. Last time we were all discussing about Star Trek and that the new series is not good compared to others
I started it this Friday and damn I can say it's good
The plot is good IMHO
about to finish Season 1

@DarkCygnus I've got one episode to go of season 1

@DarkCygnus The new star Trek is not good because it is not Star Trek. Or, I should say it's star Trek in name only. They have completely departed from Rodenberry's vision. They're also being sued for stealing the whole spore drive from a video game.

What Videogame?
Yeah, I felt it deviate from Rod's vision since Voyager TBH

I think it's reasonably solid.. but suffered majorly from the fact that it literally has no characters that I gave a rat's ass about

but I also feel that the plot and dialogs are good

4:43 PM
@DarkCygnus Tardigrades ^^^^^^

@DarkCygnus Check out Umbrella Academy
it was fantastic IMHO

@DarkCygnus not necessarily a bad thing.. DS9 only got awesome after freed from Rodenberry's shackles

I wonder how they are going to ditch that spore thingy, as in the future of the timeline the technology does not exist so I take it eventually they will F up the network
DS9 I think was my fav
@RichardU I'll read it after I finish my answers! hehe

I prefer "The expanse" great characters. @motosubatsu yeah, back in the days before budgets, you had to create characters you cared about.
Personally, my favorite character in Star Trek remains Garak, from deep space9

@RichardU The Expanse is great.. I need to watch the new season actually

4:48 PM
@motosubatsu it does a great job of suspending your disbelief.
It really brings forth just how brutal life would be in those situations
The American west would have been the OPA of their day.
Life was just as brutal

@motosubatsu Never seen it.

@MisterPositive currently it's all available (exclusively?) on Prime Video

@motosubatsu Will have to check it out. what is the premise?

takes a little while to gather it's momentum but totally worth it

@motosubatsu It's set in the future. Mankind has settled Mars and the outer planets. the asteroid belt and the moons of the gas giants. Everybody hates each other.

4:56 PM
@RichardU Sounds like earth.

Mars fought hard for independence from earth, and is resentful that they've had to dedicate resources to military defense against earth instead of terraforming. The outer planets hate the "inners" because BOTH opressed and exploited the "belters"
@MisterPositive well, that's the point. Humanity's faults will be exaggerated when times get tough.

yep.. add in a giant conspiracy, some plucky misfits just trying to survive and some pretty hard sci-fi

@motosubatsu and a plot so dark, you shouldn't have any sharp objects in the room while watching it.

@RichardU Will definitely give it a go soon

@MisterPositive The writing is fantastic, but heartbreaking at times. Don't look for any happy endings.

5:00 PM
@RichardU Good to know. Realistic I gather. The "good guys" are not always so much different from the bad.

@MisterPositive Yep.. it's a 4 on on the Mohs scale

@MisterPositive It's a gray and gray morality play. There are few, if any "good guys", and things get so desperate at times, people do horrible things. But, things are so desperate, you can empathize with the bad guys as much as the good guys.
And there are more twists and turns than a mountain road

Cool beans. I remember commercials for it, just never tried it out.
but will do now. :-)

@MisterPositive just don't binge-watch it. Too much nightmare fuel to take in large doses.

@MisterPositive there's definitely the odd episode where you don't really want to be eating while watching

5:09 PM
@motosubatsu EEEEk
@RichardU Noted. I don't have binge watch time available at the moment. ;-)

Q: Hired as devops engineer but assigned to team as "normal" developer

ZackA few months back, I applied for a backend engineering position at a company. I did a few programming challenges and had a few interviews, and got an idea of the projects they were working on (Go and Ruby on Rails were mentioned, both with which I have some experience.) After not receiving a resp...

^ .... ..... ...... ......

5:45 PM
@DarkCygnus Good luck!
@motosubatsu There is still time for you to join the fray!

@MisterPositive good luck for you too Neo :) I believe you have high chances of winning

@DarkCygnus LOL I told @Snow if you ran you would win!
@DarkCygnus And thank you!

Anyways, I am sure any of us would do a great job :D

@DarkCygnus agreed....
I want to watch the Expanse....like right now....but this damn thing called a job is getting in the way.

@MisterPositive I thought about it..but think I'm going to give it a miss this time around. There's enough quality candidates that I'm happy to vote for.

5:52 PM
I think I saw season 1 of The Expanse

@RichardU At least we have The Orville. What a great time for Sci-fi fans. We finally have shows. I was getting really sick of re-runs of star trek and non Sci-fi shows like cop dramas on the Space channel because there simply was no sci fi shows being made anymore. I am hoping for someone to resume Stargate next. That's only Scifi series I rate even higher than star trek

There was this guy that wanted to orbit the sun without engines right? And used its farts to achieve momentum IIRC

Oh and really happy the vampire craze is finally dead... that was so horrible

@TrevorD Are you also of the opinion that it is more... realistic that the ST POV?

@TrevorD Never fear, it shall return.

5:54 PM
I also left BSG half way through :/ that one I also liked

Stargate more realistic? Probably not, but I liked how self aware they were, and, aside from the first half of the first season, they kept their in universe rules fairly consistent
Star trek comes from a time where they didn't pay much attention between episodes and the cause and effect between them. So we end up with characters running around with idiot balls until someone tech talks a new solution with the deflector.
Stargate mostly tried to avoid it, or shove it under the rug in the case of 3 shots disintegrates
