I reckon basically that the kid over-prepped for the interview and in the process accidentally bluffed it

to the extent where they thought he had actual developer skills

@motosubatsu yeah, it also sounds like he doesn't brag enough. That was one that was hard for me to do as well. I voted to reopen because I think we can get an answer out of that now. Maybe one last edit to include a TLDR at the end. I'll give it a shot.

My answer would probably be along the lines of basically "fess up to your coordinator that you are out of your depth and hope they take pity on you and will help you straighten it out with manager person"
