@Dukeling from skimming your comments, it looks like most of the deleted ones like this are the possible duplicate ones - those get auto deleted when a question ends up closed as a duplicate, or are there other ones you mean?
for example on this question your duplicate comment shows deleted by "Community"
Which would have happened when it was closed - workplace.stackexchange.com/posts/120957/revisions (it's since been reopened, which does create an annoying "comment removed, question closed. question reopened, comment still removed" situation)

7:05 AM
Good morning :)
@Kilisi I saw you write you don't eat meat on Fridays? I assume you do eat meat on the other days. If you don't mind me asking, I'm curious why that is. I've seen people who don't eat meat all the time, or during a period, but a single day of the week is new to me. Is it cultural?

7:24 AM
@Belle-Sophie I'm Catholic, during Lent we don't eat meat on Fridays as a fasting rule, some of us, myself included take the fast a bit further and abstain on all Fridays, but that's a personal choice rather than a prohibition.
I'm not a bibble thumping 3 times a day church goer, just grew up with these things
There's lots of good and healthy things for mind and body, that come with a bit of self-discipline so I teach my kids the same.

Oh that's interesting! I'm a very watered-down Catholic, so I forgot about fasting.
People here do celebrate carnival, but generally skip the fasting. Feels like cherry picking to me.

7:42 AM
I like fasting, it clears out toxins from the body if nothing else, I'm not very religious, just stick with what I see as good. I like feeling healthy and our bodies are not designed for uncontrolled eating.

You won't hear anything but good from me about not eating meat. But I'm biased ;)
I tried so many diets to lose weight, but stopping with eating meat has been the only effective one so far.

stoppping red meats will help you, white meats help your metabolic rate so you should still eat those

I just eat anything, except on fridays, I get lots of exercise so never had a weight issue
but the key I reckon is to stop eating when you're no longer hungry, we have a huge obesity problem in Polynesia because they don't stop until the foods finished
I can miss a day of food and hardly care, but a few hours for some of the people here and they start obsessing and becoming irrational.
Like most personal problems it's mostly a matter of self-discipline and self-control... just my opinion though

on a side note
I just had 2 steak pies and 6 yum yums for my breakfast

7:58 AM
I miss NZ pies :'(

@TolMera You and your pies ffs

@Twyxz didn't realise I mentioned pies before...

You mentioned that you missed NZ then ten seconds later you said actually I just want a pie

lol
Sounds about right haha

Strangely enough, I feel sick

8:01 AM
Strange that...

@TolMera It was the water I drank, it must be

Yeah I miss NZ pies as well, and fish and chips

@Twyxz water? dangerous stuff that Dihydrogen Monoxide

@motosubatsu I might have to offload to focus till another year :(((

@Twyxz ?

8:11 AM
With a 450 mile max tank (never get 450) and a £71 full tank
it just eats my bank (rofl) especially when I do around 400 miles a week
I meant i'm gonna offload the focus and sell it temporarily
Or keep it and not drive it but thats a terrible invesment hahaha

yeah fuel costs are a git.. commuting to manchester in the S6 used to cost me ~ £35 a day in fuel
@Twyxz in all fairness it's worth doing the math on it - it depends how much you are going to lose in depreciation

likely a lot
Second choice is change it for a diesel version but then that's even worse

I wouldn't go diesel unless you do mega miles
and if you're doing lots of short trips you'll trash the DPF in no time

It's slower too

and there is that

8:15 AM
by 100 brake

it might make better sense to keep the focus and get something super cheap to run for racking up the boring miles

I've got the clio in storage
and the Leon with it

it's what I did when I was being crippled by the commuting costs in the WRX
what engines are in those?

1.1 and 1.6
the clio worked out £40 per week in fuelw ith my commute

I'd be inclined to use the Clio as a commuter hack and keep the focus for the weekends
probably sell the Leon

8:18 AM
Nah the Leon stays hahahah

it has the added bonus that when you get in the Focus at the weekends it will feel extra fun

my like entire family tree that lives in the area pays for this huge storage warehouse which all extra cars are shared hahaha it runs in the family
the ability to waste money on cars

I only use the RS5 daily because it's my comfiest and only auto car

(because you can't drive manual)

@Twyxz more because driving manual daily hurts like a biatch.. and having pranged the scooby twice trying to drive it with my right arm disabled (fun symptom from my CRPS) I needed something I could drive with one arm

8:25 AM
@Kilisi if you ever went fishing in NZ, I miss snapper :)

@TolMera You tried :)

lol @Twyxz yea autocomplete a... <sigh />
Never really thought of emotions as self closing tags before. but <sigh /> seems so appropriate.

@motosubatsu You need to get a nice Cupra FR
comfy, fast, auto

@Twyxz the RS5 does all of those things nicely <shrug />
and I rather like not having to choose between taking the "fun" car or the "comfy" car
19mpg is painful for sure but I guess you just have to pick and choose your downsides

Its so annoying how they measure petrol in litres
but then efficiency is gallons
why

8:31 AM
and to be fair if I didn't sit at silly speeds on the motorway then mid-twenties is perfectly feasible - so I'm my own worst enemy really :D
it's one of those weird legacy things - if you go to Europe it's all measured in l/km
which is a real pain to try and convert in your head

If I put x amount of litres and 19mpg I can go ehm.... hm

@Twyxz easy approximation is that it's ~4.5l = 1 gallon
so putting 45litres in = 10 gallons

190 miles (rofl)
You'll be lucky to move ahhahah

the tank's a bit bigger than that fortunately (although not as big as the S6's tank) - I usually have a range of about 260-290 miles a tank

@ElysianFields It's more things like "I don't think this question can really be answered because ..." or "This heavily depends on personal factors such as ...". My last one (on this question) probably isn't a great example, since it's more conversational. It usually goes together with one of the default close reasons, but I feel the additional explanation is helpful / necessary to justify the close vote.

8:36 AM
a solid 13-14 gallons?
70 litres thats a big big big tank :(

it's 64l
so ~14 gallons
the S6 had an 82l tank

ouch :/

add in the lpg tank and I could get a range of 500+ miles if I was sensible

its hardly ever written down, in terms of size of the tank
Yeah for the cost of £100+

@Twyxz yep.. that wasn't cheap to fill if both tanks were empty

8:40 AM
Clio - £40 - 400+ miles :))
well £50 for a full full tank

O.o
I filled up my tank yesterday. €80 :(

@TolMera nope, didn't fish. Mostly forestry worker so pig hunting, but even then we mainly got sheep that had somehow wondered in from the neighbouring cocky's land. They will go down a line of new trees and bite the tops off each killing them, so unfortunately for them they ended as dinner or dog tucker if there was too much to eat.

@Belle-Sophie was it a 208 or a 308 you drove?
The focus ST is only £75 or something max
But then again it probably drinks it quicker

@Twyxz 208. I do 800 km on a tank.

@Kilisi Didn't realise sheep would be such a pest, but you saying it, it makes a lot of sense. - never been pig hunting (don't eat Pork, same reasoning as you (kinda) except I'm christian not Catholic)

8:50 AM
1 mile is 1.6km right
or something
so 500 miles
thats pretty good hahaha

@TolMera sheep are ok if they're confined properly. If we opened up a new area for planting we got to prep it first, burn the gorse etc,. So you give the cocky's a couple of days to go in and round up any strays, then they come through again while you're burning usually, but once you start putting trees in you can't have sheep.
I'd rather we finished them cleanly and ate them or the dogs did, than the 1080 gets them after planting.

Mmm 1080 would be a nasty way to go.

oh yeah, it's very nasty

Ok, so just curious, you said it kills the trees? If I'm remembering my high school biology correctly, it's the "apical meristem" (probably spelt really badly) that's the main growing point for a plant, but I thought if you damaged the "apical" a new one would form from the closest joint?

totally necessary, but not nice
pine you want a straight tree, there are no branches at that stage just a stalk, so no joins
so you get the odd double headers, but you don't plant them, they're discarded

9:00 AM
Fair enough, I wondered if they would be deformed because of growing from a different point, but yea if they have no secondary point to grow from, they are going to be shrubs lol.

no they die, after planting you spray, which kills the grass surrounding them otherwise the grass blocks their sunlight and they don't get off to a good start. Imagine spraying an open wound. The idea is to get the trees solidly growing asap.

Q: Best Way To Unfriend A Coworker

NyagolovaTL;DR; I want to unfriend coworker for her overly attached behaviour, but she is also a QA of some of the projects that I develop. I was dragged into a group of 4 girls at work without me trying to achieve that. We started going for lunch together and even hang out after work from time to time. ...

Thi question feels more like IPS
except they're coworkers

then a decade later when you prune, anything not straight would be chopped down
you plant more than you will harvest, so you can take out anything unsuitable

Oh wow, you're not talking about 1 foot saplings, you're talking about seedlings..

no they're saplings, but grass grows quicker than they do, if you don't spray you won't be able to see them in a year

9:05 AM
Lol ok, I guess I've forgotten what veracious growth NZ grass has.

ideally the grass is animal cropped short, then you plant, then spray so the grass doesn't overtake the saplings
then they come in with the 1080 for the rodents and possums

Some people...
I wanna delete my answer to the unfriend coworker question
I can't word it how I want to...
Brain work pls

@Belle-Sophie is that actually an advertisement in bad disguise?

@TolMera I'm not sure what it is. Sounds like it. I think NaA.

9:51 AM
I've reject 3 edits on one answer now...
and it's something about when Gnasher says its 150% of X
but everyone keeps editing it to 150 times

10:18 AM
Would I be stupid to give a job to a fellow apprentice if we had to compete to go full time
motives being - theres no proper programming here, everything is literally done as if there are no security risks or good practice rules in place. No such thing as documentation plus the wage is rather shitty.

@Twyxz you just described 96% of developer jobs
welcome to the work force!
security risks - only get considered if either a) the company has gotten burned before or b) they are forced to because of ISO27001

Well the company
is local government
so you can imagine how funding goes

"good practice" rules are in place more often - but actually following them? nah.. only happens when work isn't rammed

The trading thing is a bit confusing hahha

local gov? it's a complete clusterfork I expect

10:24 AM
I get no experience or practice here
We just develop what we need to
which is usually just something stupid like reading info from bin men and putting it online for people to see

@Twyxz again..sorry to say it but welcome to the workforce
the only way to get new experience is if there is work that needs doing that needs it

theres no such thing as projects tho thats the thing, I literally get tasks that take me 30 mins to do then I go back to sleep

@Twyxz that's a bit crappy..often the life of the junior or apprentice though really

nah the seniors do exactly what I do
if not less

in your situation I'd look to move on

10:26 AM
the only difference is the numbers, 40+ years, 1 year
but my fellow apprentice wants to stay he enjoys doing basically nothing
So it's a nobrainer really, obviously if I wanted to stay i'd put myself first
the only only ONLY reason I would ever compete for it is if I thought I couldn't get another job elsewhere in short time but I have a part time job anyway I can take more hours

you seem like a pretty bright guy - you'll get something better without too much hassle

if I don't, I've watched all the fast and furious series a few times over and have access to a large storage of cars :))))
they seem to live pretty well right?

@Twyxz just remember to change gear at minimum 15 times per 1/4 mile

@motosubatsu And get my significant speed boost when I do?

@Twyxz of couurse
remember.. you live your life 1/4 mile at a time, and for those 10 seconds or less you're free

10:34 AM
Before I learnt to drive they made it look really cool, now I realise how little it all makes sense hahahah

@Twyxz they're still good fun though.. you just have to ignore the sobbing sounds coming from the corner where physics softly weeps

I've been watching a series on netflix called rust to riches
It's a guy who takes basically scraps and old things that are falling apart and he restores them and puts on a custom type look then trades up till he makes 6 figures

Ehh, I would prefer to start with a paperclip and work up from there than spend my time refurbishing old stuff

funny you should say that
he did that to get the equipment and his first scraps
then he got 5 people to join with him
now he's rich and has a series on netflix which no doubt gets him paid too
Not to mention the cars he gets to drive and own

heh, feel like I've just been told :P also feels like maybe I should watch this show.

10:41 AM
It's really good, p.s the female mechanic is not bad on the eye <shrug/>
Should I include my linkedIn account on my CV

I include a link to my online portfolio on my CV, I think I would include my LinkedIn on my portfolio rather than my CV

I also think I have way too many sections
it doesn't extend over 1.5 pages but it seems like a lot of dividing the page

Actually that's a good question, my CV is 3 pages, what's what recruiters tell me to do, but recently had one tell me to add a 4th page that was a "skills matrix"
So I wonder that the 'right number' of pages is.

From all of my research (ever) it says no longer than 2 pages unless you have an excessive amount of achievments
and everything is relevant to the job you're applying for
I have 7 sections on two pages.... I thinks personal and career summary should be merged into one?

10:58 AM
Can't really comment without seeing it.
might be totally relevant to merge, might not be...

I mean you can read it if you want hahaha it doesn't bother me

I go to pub lunch in a minute, so yea sure, send it over and I'll look @lunch.
no idea how you DM or can

I opened a room
Definitely give that series a watch if you like your cars, it's quite interesting.
(atleast to me)

12:50 PM
@Dukeling I'm not sure if this will make you feel better but that question has almost 30 deleted comments on it now... and both your comments related to the close vote show deleted by community (one of them being deleted is confusing to me; the close vote one makes sense but the other.. maybe I'll ask?) - the only other comment I saw was this one which ended up moved to chat with a lot of other conversation on the question

@IDrinkandIKnowThings +1

6:41 PM
What site did they take out of HNQ? And how do we get on that list

IPS. It sounds like twitter is the best way to get off the list @IDrinkandIKnowThings...

@IDrinkandIKnowThings IPS removed because someone complained about it on twitter
so all TWP needs to do is get a couple Qs with unwelcoming titles on HNQ
(don'T actually do that, the trash fire is already burning brightly enough)

> How can I convince my boss I'm not gay?
> My coworker is a convicted sex offender, how do I stop working with them?
> New boss is sexist, what do I do?
some possible titles
There's probably more culturally hot-button topics too but my brain is tired

please tell me though you're not seriously considering this

7:09 PM
IPS is a bigger hot mess than politics SE.

7:40 PM
> How should I deal with an employee who has slept with my wife?
> Fired by an Intoxicated Boss
> Previous company name is ISIS, how to list on CV?
Something like that maybe?
But those are existing questions.
> How can I interact professionally with female colleagues whose appearance I find distracting?
> Talking to colleague with short skirt - how do I not come off as a creep?

Yeah we have had our share of "Interesting"questions over the years

I was looking through the top-voted ones, but there aren't that many that are bad. I imagine a lot of the HNQ bait didn't quite get such a high score (at least not yet, anyway).

8:26 PM
TFW you "pass" an interview after making some really stupid mistakes (like writing code on the assumption that a byte is 4 bits).
Also, TFW you "pass" an interview that just wasn't particularly challenging or interesting (minus the stupid mistakes you made).
