@FutureHistorian I am not sure I even understand that sentence. "from the perspective of the setting's alternate 2018" -> a year in an alternate universe doesn't have a point of view. And documentaries are normally done after-the-fact. If you want to do a documentary go watch a documentary of World War II on TV - that should be close to what you want to achieve. If you want to document it from the perspective of a person living through that time you could for example write a diary from their PoV.
