Q: Is it now a good time to merge with CSTheory.SE

Thinh D. NguyenFor several recent years, the contents of questions on CSTheory.SE are strict subsets of those here on CS.SE Especially, theoretical questions here and there are often linked to each other. Also, many have asked a question on both sites. Then moderator actions like close, merge, migrate have to ...

Q: Computer Science's updated site theme is ready for testing!

CatijaAs part of implementing the new unified themes across the network, we're gradually rolling out updated site themes for each site. As of today, we have enabled your updated site theme for testing. If you can't see it right now, that's by design! This is a very early test implementation of your d...

Q: Testing of an algorithm on topic?

gansubI am new to this site but not new to SE. I am examining an algorithm that has been published and the software that comes along with the algorithm. Are questions related to testing of the algorithm using some sample data on topic ? I presume that they would be based on the tags that are available ...

Q: Imbalance of variables in Mixing Newton's method and Linear solver for a Non-linear system

R zuProblem Solving a non-linear system of equations. The number of variables is the same as the number of equations. When I fix a set of variables (say $\vec{y}$) and keep another set free (say $\vec{x}$), the system becomes an under-determined, dense, and linear system of the subset of variables...

Q: Can PDA model Turing Complete objects if the objects' state are finite?

BriomkezI am currently reading the extended Version of the Paper Online Detection of Effectively Callback Free Objects with Applications of Smart Contract. I am trying to understand the proofs of Chapter 6. In particular, I cannot understand the premise of proofs 6.2. Indeed, the authors use a variant o...

Q: I want a fast rank only shuffling algorithm for a full 52 card deck

David JamesMy goal is to do some large iteration Monte Carlo simulation of different card games that require on the order of 1 billion random decks to get a reliably accurate answer. The bulk of the computer time is actually shuffling/preparing the decks, not searching for the "hit" criteria I am looking f...

Whoa, looks like we abandoned chat for good. The reasons for that should probably be a matter of analysis and discussion, but well.
Just in case anybody drops by here: now is the time to post feedback on the upcoming new design. Don't wait until it's too late!

thx for unfreezing the room. was ~½ surprised it got frozen. sometimes wonder if fewer new ppl are entering chat, sometimes seems that way across multiple sites. maybe related to SE ads for chat on main page, main source of traffic. have they decreased the rotation? another possibility is just that traffic on main site is down.
