Q: Does this question belong on a different forum?

linuxfreebirdI wrote the question: What can I do with this algorithm? Before writing the question I was unsure what stackexchange forum I should have posted in. I narrowed it down to either Computer Science, Computational Science, Mathematics, MathOverFlow, or Physics. I chose Computer Science, because I want...

Hello!!!
Are you familiar with the simplex method? @Raphael @Gilles
@Evinda What kind of question do you have?
The following system of restrictions is given:
For which values of a is there a degenarate basic feasible solution? @Raphael
Can we make a drawing to see when we will have a degenarate basic feasible solution?
@Raphael
What have you tried and where did you get stuck?
For simple cases, a drawing can get you the right ideas; they are not a proof, though.

Wait a minute so that I show you what I have tried! @Raphael
@Raphael Is it right so far? Do we have to check now what happens if P_4 gets in the basis and what if P_5 gets in the basis?

@Raphael Is it right so far?
@Raphael Do we maybe make now the drwing for a=3/2 ?
@Evinda Sorry, I don't do homework tutoring here. Try to formulate a specific question -- your message 26612174 looks promising -- and post on the site!
Make sure to use MathJax instead of these pictures, though.
@Raphael Which is the message 26612174?
I posted it on the site @Raphael

Q: Find value of b

EvindaThe following system of restrictions is given: $$y_1+ 2 y_2 \leq 4 \\ 2y_1+y_2 \leq 2 \\ y_1+b y_2 \leq 3 \\ y_1, y_2 \geq 0$$ For which values of b is there a degenarate basic feasible solution? Can we make a drawing to see when we will have a degenarate basic feasible solution? The first ...

Q: Please enable migration path to SO

RaphaelAs per community consensus we would like to have a migration path to Stack Overflow. Statistics shows that it would be used fairly often, and that the moderators (who currently have to perform all migrations) have an excellent rejection rate. Please enable that one for us.

@Evinda Interesting. I see them also at my own. Browser bug or moderator feature? FWIW, the permalink feature accessible via the small triangle to the left of your messages contains the ID, but that's not convenient to use in the way I tried.
@Evinda I meant that one. (Hover over this message and yours will be highlights. The reply functionality causes this to happen.)

cs.stackexchange.com/questions/51504/… Is it a bad idea to comment on questions like that one something like "go to your closest university and ask for career advice"?
