Q: Why can I look at a graph and immediately find the closest point to another point, but it takes me O(n) time through programming?

AriLet me clarify: Given a scatterplot of some given number of points n, if I want to find the closest point to any point in the plot mentally, I can immediately ignore most points in the graph, narrowing my choices down to some small, constant number of points nearby. Yet, in programming, given a...

This is slowly becoming ridiculous... still for not protecting, @Gilles?

@Raphael I don't see any really crappy answers, but duplicates are cropping up
I have a high-scoring answer so I could count as conflicted. Feel free to protect if you want.

Graphs may not be too interesting for showing-off purposes since they tend to look boring, visually.
graphs as boring looking?!? oh geez
lol
beg to differ... graphs are some of the coolest math objects visualizable.... =D
recently was playing with graphviz large graph module... gotta blog about it sometime
asked about graph viz software on software rec site recently & ofc it got quickly on hold closed
