@forest I solved the problem by mv ~/.wine ~/.wine_old
04:03
Yeah that's a useful trick. Wine will rebuild the DLLs if it can't find them.

Is this on topic, somehow?

Q: Why my site can't be found? CNAME points to AWS ELB

Richard RublevMy nslookup nslookup richardrublev.xyz Server: 127.0.0.53 Address: 127.0.0.53#53 Non-authoritative answer: *** Can't find richardrublev.xyz: No answer On Advanced DNS,I set the CNAME I checked 3 times external IP. How to inspect this?

@terdon I want to say yes, only if they really are doing this on Linux :) But I guess it would be more on topic on serverfault
@forest don't know if you saw my two ping/mentions, but wanted to see your replies since they are usually insightful :P if not it's fine
@NordineLotfi Oh, it would be completely off topic on SF< that doesn't seem like a professional sysadmin.
12:12
I see. I honestly would post it there if it was me, but thankfully don't work with websites (for now). I mean, you don't have to be a professional sysadmin to post on SF, right?
oh, you mean that some people might think that? I think I may have misunderstood what you meant, so I'm not sure
@NordineLotfi "Server Fault is for questions about managing information technology systems in a business environment."
@terdon This is not on topic in its current form, no.
But it's only if one is picky. If one wants to be kind one assumes that they are actually running some form of Unix on the system, maybe even Linux.
... but it's technically off-topic (or at least unclear) because the same issue could occur even if the machine ran Windows, and they don't say anything about what they're using.
Roaima convinced me:
@terdon I took it to be an issue with the way the OP was using nslookup, which is a UNIX/Linux-related issue. My answer concentrates on using dig to investigate issues rather than teaching how to use DNS. — roaima 2 hours ago
And since the OP accepted the answer, I just let it go
@terdon You can use nslookup on a Unix system to look up the address of a Windows machine. It is unclear where the user ran this command.
@Tim hi Tim! What do you think about self-answering your question with that?
But yes, since the user accepted an answer, I'll let it go too. But the whole thing seems less than useful to anybody else.
12:40
@Kusalananda I see, that explains what terdon said earlier
12:53
@NordineLotfi you do, yes
Or at least be talking about a professional environment. I've asked one or two questions there despite not being a sysadmin myself, but they were "sysadminy" questions about setting up or using a large cluster.
@terdon hmm that make sense yeah.
maybe I had this (mis)conception that anything related to the topic of the SE/site (eg, server administration in this case) was fine, unless it touched on Windows/Linux/non-server admins oriented question (eg: how to set up bash, etc) then yeah, I would think this wouldn't fit there, but that's it
13:35
Nah, the SF folks feel very strongly about it.
Anything that is about "consumer workstations or networking" is explicitly off topic.

3 hours later…

@jesse_b @NordineLotfi I received the MSI headset. It seems to work well. But I had to set it as the default device, for input as well as output, in pavucontrolbefore I got any sound. I can certainly see the appeal of not having to fiddle with jacks. However, it's rather tight on my head, and isn't manually adjustable, unfortunately. I'm hoping it will loosen up.
There seems to be some kind of thickish wire on top with is causing most, if not all, of the compression. I'm not sure if it is plastic or metal.
The sound quality seems quite good. I wonder how long it will last, though. the mics seem to go first.
It doesn't even fit comfortably around my neck, which is a drag.
thats a shame, I'm sure it will loosen up over time. You could probably expedite that by bending it back a bit
16:32
@jesse_b Yes, I've tried bending it. It would be better if it could be adjusted, though.
One curious thing is that Skype doesn't accept the input unless I set it to mono. If I set if to multichannel (the other available option) it immediately resets it to the sound card when I start the call. But it doesn't do that if I set it to mono. Also, only the mono input option is shown in the Skype settings.
Also, it lists it as a generic "USB Audio Device". Whereas is recognizes sound cards.
is -> it. Sorry.
@FaheemMitha Happy Birthday to you. If not mistaken.
@PrabhjotSingh Thank you. You're not mistaken.
17:04
@PrabhjotSingh How are you? Did you do any new investing?
@FaheemMitha I am well.
Yes I've purchased Mirza International (@150) and Adani Power.(@130).
And I am selling Automobile stock these days
@PrabhjotSingh Ugh. Adani is evil. I wouldn't buy his stocks.
I've sleep related issues. So I can't work properly on investing.
And the stock prices are currently inflated as well. So it could easily drop.
Evil people are better at making money
17:10
@jesse_b That is sadly true, yes. Especially if the creature holding the post of Prime Minister of India is their close personal friend and gives them whatever they want.
sounds like he's a safe investment then
@FaheemMitha Agreed. As long as funds are buying, inflation won't go away.
One of the Adani stocks was momentarily trading at a P/E of 1000. And no, that company hasn't bought alien technology to Earth.
@jesse_b Not really. At those valuations, it's not safe at all.
@FaheemMitha I've bought. What should I do now?
@FaheemMitha Maybe, but if you know a fight is rigged you still bet on the winner no matter what the odds
17:14
@PrabhjotSingh I'm in no position to give advice on equities. Or anything else, for that matter. But in general I would stay away from Adani stocks.
And yes, I realise that's me giving advice, but that's really more in the realm of common sense.
@jesse_b Sure, but reality has a way of reasserting itself.
And check on the Adani stock valuations. They're sky high.
@FaheemMitha Don't get me wrong. I had bought CG Power and Adani Power that day. I would sell them in a week.
@PrabhjotSingh Do your research. Don't rush into anything.
@FaheemMitha Ok.
I think there are plenty of opportunities, but you have to look for them. They are usually not what is being advertised in the media.
@FaheemMitha Website you once mentioned about stocks isn't giving me membership.
17:18
@PrabhjotSingh What website?
@FaheemMitha This is a community where people ask questions.
@PrabhjotSingh And what is the name of that website?
Weirdly, P/E is not that high here, but look at P/B.
And earnings have been erratic, to say the least.
@FaheemMitha Vaulpickr
Book Value is 9 rupees.
Stock is trading at 38.4 times its book value. (From Screener.in).
@PrabhjotSingh Valuepickr? More specifically forum.valuepickr.com?
@PrabhjotSingh Yes, I know. Which is quite high.
Compare it to similar companies. Or any companies at all, really.
@FaheemMitha Yes. They are not giving me membership.
Do you know someone at valupickr?
17:25
@PrabhjotSingh Really? Why not? What happened?
@PrabhjotSingh Not personally. I've exchanged the occasional email with people there.
I certainly don't have any kind of influence there.
@FaheemMitha I've signed up 3-4 times. But I still have no account.
I see CG Power went from 5.50 at its lowest point to 236 right now. There's got to be a story there.
@PrabhjotSingh That's weird. Did you receive any kind of communication from the site?
The mods tend to be a bit strange. I quite often have had posts deleted for no reason. It might be a seniority thing. And/or a we know you so you can post what you want thing.
But I haven't posted there in a while.
@PrabhjotSingh Have you been reading the site? It seems quite useful. What did you think of it?
@FaheemMitha No.
@PrabhjotSingh Yes, quite strange. So you just tried to sign up and nothing happened?
@FaheemMitha That is very good site.
17:31
@PrabhjotSingh Yes, I thought so too.
@FaheemMitha CG Power.
But you still don't want to to take what people say for gospel.
@PrabhjotSingh Ouch.
@FaheemMitha Agreed. Do you know my religious thoughts?
@PrabhjotSingh No, I don't know your religious thoughts.
Want to take what people say on the site for gospel. Just to be clear. Sometimes they are overenthusiastic.
@FaheemMitha Yes. I remember once they were suggesting that L&T Tech is overly priced. But the stock have moved up.
17:37
@PrabhjotSingh This business is all about probabilities. You want to have the probabilities on your side. Statistics teaches that in the long term you cannot beat the probabilities, and it's foolish to try. And investing is largely about the long term.
Given how the Indian market works, I suspect there are many underpriced stocks. But it may not be obvious. You need to look at them.
@FaheemMitha You had bought Jagran and Alkem. Have you purchased recently?
@PrabhjotSingh No. I bought Ganesh Benzoplast, Jagran, Alkem, and Dynemic Products. Both the last of those was over a year ago, I think.
I decided I didn't know enough to make sensible decisions, so no more purchases for the moment.
I would expect the pharma companies to do better than they seem to. Perhaps part of the problem is that they are not well run.
Both the last -> But the last. Sorry.
@FaheemMitha Your Cipla have crossed 1000. But other stocks are not performing well.
@PrabhjotSingh Yes, Cipla has people who can do planning. Though I'm not sure who they are. I wish I did.
@FaheemMitha Hamid sahib was a visionary.
17:50
@PrabhjotSingh Maybe so.
Most Indian firms don't seem to be very good at planning. Or management, even. And there seems to be tons of management fraud. And if not straight management fraud, then abuse of their position.
@FaheemMitha Yes. True. I had purchased both Yes Bank And DHFL.
@FaheemMitha Regulators?
@PrabhjotSingh Pardon?
@FaheemMitha In many cases, Regulators or/and credit rating agencies act very lately.
@PrabhjotSingh India has no meaningful regulation.
The regulatory agencies are mostly a joke.
And our govt is a gang of dangerous criminals.
The moral is, be careful.
@FaheemMitha This comment went over my head.
17:58
@PrabhjotSingh I was correcting the first line in the preceding paragraph. Namely:
17 mins ago, by Faheem Mitha
@PrabhjotSingh No. I bought Ganesh Benzoplast, Jagran, Alkem, and Dynemic Products. Both the last of those was over a year ago, I think.
s/Both the last/But the last/ would explain better, imo.
@PrabhjotSingh Well, that's sed notation, I think. But OK.
@PrabhjotSingh I think Cipla will continue growing for some years, at least. But probably not very fast. But it feels quite stable. It seemed relatively unaffected by all the stuff that has been going on recently. Like the Ukraine war and subsequent instability.
