@Kusalananda that makes sense, but seems like it would add an extra layer of complication and a performance hit compared to baremetal, is that wrong?

9:46 AM
@terdon Complication? No. Performance hit? That depends on the hypervisor, but yes possibly, at least if you're accessing a disk image. I rarely care about that though.

Eh, I like playing the odd game on my machine from time to time and I will sometimes also do some computationally intensive bioinformatics stuff on it.

My starlink dish will be here today finally, pretty fired up about it

@jesse_b Congratulations. Is that internet? Or something else?

8:17 PM
@FaheemMitha yeah satellite internet. Came with a mount that is no good for me though so now I need to wait on a new one

@jesse_b That must be very expensive.

@FaheemMitha Not terribly. The dish and equipment is pretty expensive but the service is on par with everything else
the mount that starlink offers directly is much cheaper than the knock offs on scamazon too

@jesse_b What is the monthly rate, assuming it's billed monthly?

$110
it's actually cheaper than all the other satellite based services in my area
