I want a good reason why people keep track of every single statement in questions even if it's apparently irrelevant to the question itself?

I'm not sure what you're concerned about yet, @EnthusiastiC. Who's worried about the statement(s)? Have they been edited out? Updated? If they're irrelevant to the question, and someone is still concerned about them, maybe there's confusion about the question's scope?

@EnthusiastiC the -v option makes me think of awk, but that doesn't define a field, that defines an awk variable. Are you trying to assign a shell array variable to an awk variable?

@JeffSchaller I asked a question yesterday, and in the context of it, I included a code and I didn't tell about some variables.

well, I'm sorry, I can't read minds :) I find most people here who try to answer questions do try to understand them, so if someone's left a comment, they're probably trying to understand it in order to answer it

@EnthusiastiC while I'm not in a position to answer your Question right now, I'd point out that you don't seem to be passing in a shell array variable, but rather a newline-separated string. An array variable would look more like var=(2 4 6 8 other things here).

but it does look like two people have attempted answers in the meantime, anyway :)
