I was wondering about breaking up the two long lines in the shell script.

A very very long update. Does this go some way to towards fixing outstanding security vulnerabilities?

Is the changelog mentions CVEs, does that mean those CVEs have been fixed?

I'm also wondering why this update, signed-off by Andres Salomon, says "Non-maintainer upload". What happened to the maintainers?

Yes, a backspace with nothing after it is line continuation. But I bet there are online resources saying this too. They might even work in single-quoted strings. (If not, at worst you could split up the strings and put them next to one another.)

I have a javascript blocker; I got so used to it working on SO/SE sites that I didn't think to check it for Math Overflow; it was blocking the javascript that hides the rep points.
