Does anyone know why PDF files can't be uploaded to SE?
This should be removed from the imagemagick in Bullseye - stackoverflow.com/a/59193253/350713

@FaheemMitha I think the "upload" feature is really "upload to imgur" and I suspect imgur only accepts images (excluding PDFs). Just guessing.

@JeffSchaller Converting is a drag, and the results typically look terrible.
Hmm, actually, I guess I should use TeX to convert it, then it would probably look better.
See the bottom of this answer, for example.

A: Read YAML field from LaTeX

Faheem MithaSee the example below using LYAML (https://github.com/gvvaughan/lyaml), tested on Debian 11 (bullseye). Some notes: You need the LYAML (LibYAML binding for Lua) Lua library (see https://github.com/gvvaughan/lyaml), and the POSIX Lua library (see https://github.com/luaposix/luaposix). These corre...

paste it into Microsoft Word, take a screenshot, then upload that ;)

@JeffSchaller that’s the wrong way round! take a screenshot, paste it into Word, and email the .docx

gah, I always get that backwards; thanks

or print it and then scan it or take a photo
or better yet, display it on your phone and scan your phone
for extra bonus points, fax it

If you are referring to MSE, you are just suspended for one week. Nobody here can know more details, that's up to the mods of MSE.

@AndrasDeak Who, Arcanis?
Yes, that would be handy. He could tell us the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything. I, for one, would be most interested.
I mean, what is up with all those Galaxies?

@ilkkachu Do you think that cobbling something together from the Lua posix library would work? I don't understand the issues here properly, but there a few answers on SO which seem to suggest that.
@ilkkachu I updated the question slightly. The functions runs as written, but I added an explicit call to it.
I don't get the Lua people, I must say. Who would be hurt if they had a Lua equivalent of subprocess? But apparently they think different.
> To actually capture both the stdout and stderr, one would usually connect both to pipes (or whatever) before launching the external command.

@FaheemMitha to be precise: Arcanis - The Omnipotent

I'm generally very sketchy how Unix does its thing. But when one is forking, the forked process i.e. the child (in this case, Bash, I suppose) would have pipes attached with it to pass stdout and stderr to whoever was interested? What are these called in subprocess (just as a reference point)?
@AndrasDeak To give him (or her) his or her full title.

Python's subprocess talks about pipes
stdin and stdout, which can be piped to/from, more like

Is that the std in or stdout corresponding to the forked process? E.g. Bash?

If I understand the question then yes
