I'm inclined to believe the chances of messing up are the same on any day of the week. But on Sat/Sun people is more likely to just sigh, close their laptop's lid and go doing something else :-)

@fra-san a bad mistake so far I did was "rm wantedToDeleteSomeFiles *" in root directory

so I deleted all the files in / directory, but fortunately not so important things was there

and was our test environment

what I learened from that post is that "typing" is dangerous and it's not just all about "rm"

Well, a naive but likely effective advice would be to always use mv and then, if nothing/nobody starts yelling, rm.

Those answers tend to be pitfall-rich. E.g. having a file named -i may be helpful and create a sense of protection, until one also happens to have a file named -rf.

Can someone tell me how to modify

time latexmk -pdflua -shell-escape impactindia1.tex &> impactindia1.latemk.log

to send stdout and stderr to standard output too? &> just sends it to the file.

Yes, I was trying tee just now. Not really heard of it, but apparently that's what it's for.

I was trying

ls sdfsdfs &> | tee foo.out

but that doesn't work.

@FaheemMitha tee takes stdin and channels it into a file (as well as passing it on to stdout), which is why yours didn't work

@AndrasDeak Not clear on the details there. I'm not even sure what &> does, except that it's a Bashism.

If you do man bash and search for &> it's surprisingly effective

It's under "Redirecting Standard Output and Standard Error"
