A lot of university libraries have an alumni access programme

I realise this question is a bit out there, but does anyone here have experience using blood glucose monitors? Specifically, wrt to reliablity. And also, ease of use.

why can't i seem to find ipchains for Debian 10?

@FaheemMitha yes. With electronic ones. They have something like 0.4 mmol/l accuracy. For reference normal values are around 4-8 mmol/l depending on circumstances. But they are easy to use. The ones that are standard here have a pen with disposable needle tips and adjustable stabbing depth. You cock it, press a button to stab your fingertip, draw out a small drop of blood which you put in contact with the small aperture on the disposable test strip.

Like ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB106IdXODxK1RjSsphq6zHrpXan/…, note the little window at the bottom end of the test strip. It pulls up <1 microliters or something like that with the capilllary effect. Very small droplets are enough.

And the prick is like thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/… with a tip like ortopedtechnika.com/images/termekek/… where you twist off the round cap before use to expose the needle

Specific device customs probably vary by region. And in the US mg/dl is more common than mmol/l I think.

universities are run like business although claim all the benefits of non profit organizations.

@FaheemMitha well i guess it won't be needed in that Debian has no firewall up and what i am reading suggests that i need to use it to allow ssh through the firewall, would tptables be what replaces it?

@AdamL Yes, iptables replaced ipchains. But I think there was something after that too. Do a search for packet filtering in Linux.

@AdamL You may want to use a front-end. There's a fair amount of overhead in using it directly.

Then again, it's good to understand how things work.

@FaheemMitha yeah, on occasion, to make sure everything's OK. I have a sweet tooth and I had a diabetic grandparent so it doesn't hurt to check every now and then

@FaheemMitha it's hard to test your blood otherwise ;) But it's not a huge deal. You can find the lowest setting that's enough to draw your blood reliably. And the trick is to aim at the side of your fingertip rather than head-on. There are a lot fewer nerve endings on the side.

@Tim Well, for example, here's information for a fully private university in the US, and from a quick look around the area it appears that the major public *-grant universities also have similar programmes, so I don't think either zero tuition or social democracy are requirements. It is a fairly standard thing for universities to offer their alumni
