@terdon not as a replacement. Is it acceptable to quote the twitter? If not, I would want to write my own summary of the sequence of events I'm discussing. I.e. just linking to the question isn't very clear... at least I managed to misread it even with the ability to see the deletion :-).

@sourcejedi Sure, leave the twitter link, just include a link to the actual thing being discussed. We aren't discussing the twitter post, we're discussing the deleted answer here and there is no link to that in your question.

Ah, nevermind. When I click the link that says I can vote to undelete, I get a error telling me that I can't because it was a moderator deletion :-).

@FaheemMitha I saw a good looking hammer laying in the middle of the road on my way to work this morning but I didn't have time to pick it up :(

I have another awaiting restoration but I need to find a quality piece of hardwood to use for the handle first (along with complete 1000 other chores before I can work on anything elective)

I kind of miss the wide open spaces of North America.

@FaheemMitha It's a box of welding rods. I was just using it to show how polished the hammer is. It's actually quite satisfying to polish an old piece of metal down to that fine of a mirror finish

Particularly from the Baroque period. But I also listen to other periods.

E.g. the Monteverdi 1610 Vespers are pretty good.

I used to really like Handel too. Though I haven't listened to much of his music recently.

Perhaps it's the British connection.

I mean, when I hear coronation anthems, I have a strong urge to throw up.

It could mean the current number of compounds (areas) seen so far; it could capture the rate of compounding (finance/interest), it could be a nested array, it could be an associative array...

Where did you encounter the phrase?

I encountered it in some function in JavaScript that re-sorted an array on a web page.
I recalled that term a few days ago and said to myself it's a pity I have yet to understand its general meaning.

@JohnDoea In C, they are called struct. A compond variable is a variable whose value is made up ("compounded") of many parts.

The ksh93 shell has compound variables, but I've never had to use them.

Some languages (Pascal?) calls them "records".
