@VlastimilBurian since you deleted the question, I'm continuing the discussion here
a vote to close isn't a request to delete
your question would have remained, just with a pointer to the other question
if you think an existing Q & A are unclear, the solution isn't to add a new Q & A but to edit the existing one

mdadm: /dev/md126 has failed so using --add cannot work and might destroy
mdadm: data on /dev/sda2. You should stop the array and re-assemble it.
... wtf
Oh dear, Google reminds me I've had this problem before

Q: Why does mdadm believe my raid1 "has failed so using --add cannot work"?

derobertTLDR: Trying to add a blank partition to a degraded RAID1 with mdadm 3.3.2 (Debian Jessie) fails, saying the (perfectly working!) array has "failed" and "--add cannot work". Is it telling me of a real danger here, or have I just hit some weird bug? Detailed Version Overnight, I had a disk die. ...

Apparently I lost the mdadm patch at some point.

@derobert congrats on writing up a solution that you can use twice! :)

Hah, yep! Glad I wrote it up.

I too have had the odd experience of having a question, doing a search and finding an answer, by me. Which I'd forgotten about.
