fyi - I just deleted an answer to a 30 day old question. So fear it may not be noticed. Will resubmit as a Q&A asap
i mention, because while the system always asks about edit changes, does nto ask for 'delete' reason.
ah, but I see my answer has been provided, largely, elsewhere. C'est la vie.

11:16 AM
is there a privilege to delete your answer?

@user334283 no, you can always delete an answer you wrote (at least, if your account is registered)

on mobile app I didn't find any such option

11:40 AM
@user334283 The mobile app doesn't offer everything the normal site does, no.

12:38 PM
hey guys is there any solution of this unix.stackexchange.com/q/324731/192349

12:57 PM
my question has been put on-hold..isn't it clear what I'm asking? Maybe the problem I'm having is so unique that it has no answer

no, not so unique. but your question is something along the line of: "How to proceed when I follow instructions - and get an unexpected error. You case is a specific instance of 'porting problems'

@user334283 Try adding some more information. Show us the contents of the directory you are running make in. It looks like you're just in the wrong place.

in other words, not unique at all. Just another instance of a "class" :p
what we need is the output of make with no errors.

More importantly, as I said before, I don't think this is the right solution to your issue, It might, or it might not be. What makes you so sure installing these drivers will help?

I downloaded the xz file, which of course does not, will not build on AIX, but I already see several things you should try.
let me find my paste.bin account and I shall share hints that way. Does not work in Q&A - this is much more 'classic IRC'

1:04 PM
Oh, and as a general rule, you don't want to run make with sudo. Only make install needs that. Which, frankly, makes me wonder why you're using Kali in the first place. Why not use a normal distribution?

@user334283 in general it's better to ask a question explaining the basic problem you're trying to solve, and explain what you've done so far — your real question here is "how do I get wifi working".

That ^^

try 'make help'

24 hours ago, by terdon
Finally, @user334283. I suggest you start your question from the beginning. Explain what the issue with your interface is. You are starting by explaining the solution you think you need, but that might be wrong. This is a typical XY problem.

and as the experts suggest, rather query - is this really your problem?
You asked yesterday about make defconfig-wifi, and I think that may only work after 'make defconfig' - so the article you went to is not complete, or has built-in assumptions (such as had already done that part, and did nto realize it is a prereq to everything else)

1:27 PM
my problems started from here unix.stackexchange.com/q/321464/192349 and GAD3R was the most helpful person who resolved my all the issues which I don't even mention in this question..he recommended me to install backports after updating kali-linux and installing linux-headers..he even provided commands how do I need to compile backports..but then I got stuck with the error when I entered sudo make deconfig-wifi..from here my struggle began to fix it

@user334283 the latter part of GAD3R's suggestion should be sufficient: if you upgrade to the 4.8 kernel, you won't need the backports.

I'm actually using 4.8.0 kernel version

@user334283 OK, so the backports won't add anything
look at the date: the 4.8 kernel is newer than March 2016

I'm actually using 4.8.0 kernel version
I'm actually using 4.8.0 kernel version

1:43 PM
@user334283 What are the contents of the directory where you're running make?

2:05 PM
-15 2 hours ago unaccept - that is harsh - get +5 because I was liked yesterday, and net -10 because XXX changes their mind :p

google allo at it's best

@SwiftPushkar hello.

5:34 PM
@Junaga How is that better than just searching google for it? I don't get it

5:54 PM
@SwiftPushkar If you're interested in command-line, then followings are for beginners:

Hey there, would any of you know how to make exo-open open a terminal and automatically run a specific command? I am attempting to create a custom action on Thunar which automatically runs atom in a terminal, as some functionalities are lost if atom is not opened through the terminal. Currently to run a terminal, I have "exo-open --working-directory %f --launch TerminalEmulator" . I can't seem to find an option to let me automatically add a command to this, is it possible>
?

6:11 PM
@Devilius What's exo-open? Why don't you just launch the terminal directly?

@Devilius seems like a decent Question for the site -- a quick search didn't turn up anything

Something like xterm -e "your_command_here"
Presumably, you could even do xo-open --working-directory %f --launch "xterm -e atom"

seems from docs.xfce.org/xfce/exo/preferred-applications that you can just pass parameters, like "exo-open --launch TerminalEmulator mutt"
or what terdon just said :)

Is this some sort of xdg-open fork?
Yeah, what @JeffSchaller said. The docs even have that specific example.

6:29 PM
terdon, if you're still there (it's not worth pinging you), do you know how the "draft" saving of an answer works?
I'm wondering about building up some thoughts on an answer, and it'd be nice if I could plop them all into an answer box and come back to it over a couple days.

@terdon it's chat bot! wuhu magic :D

well, now he's pinged :)

@Junaga It's a chat bot that pastes the first result of a google search. That's like 10 lines of bash!
@JeffSchaller I think you can, actually. It must store a cookie somewhere. Another option is to actually post the answer, then delete it, and then edit at your leisure.

@terdon ahh, now that's a creative workaround! heh, thanks!

:)

6:32 PM
brb - closing browser to test!
well, it survived a browser reboot

Yes, that I have seen. I just can't promise you it will be there in a week. It probably will unless you clear your cookies though.

of course there's a meta question on it -- just found it & reading it now; meta.stackexchange.com/q/1177/307535
most importantly for me:
You only get one draft for an answer and one for a question. (If you start a new post, the old draft is cleared.)
Drafts will be automatically cleared after a week.
google drive it is, then!

6:49 PM
@JeffSchaller Ah, nice. Good find! That's probably best, otherwise we'd be cluttering up our drives with unposted answers.

@terdon I'm (slowly) learning that most of my "what's this weird thing on stackexchange?" questions already have an answer buried on one of the meta's somewhere (here, main, or meta.SO)

Yeah, that's what you get when you collect so many pedants obsessive geeks in one place.
:)

7:11 PM
indeed! (as I fill up a google doc with ways to break command-line limits - in reference to unix.stackexchange.com/questions/322433/…

Huh. I doubt there's a limit though. I've worked with several million lines and have never had an issue.

a multi-million line sed script? cool :)

No, a sed script that processes millions of lines. I guess I misunderstood the question.

does maybe someone know something bout this standard? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Torito_(CD-ROM_standard)
I asked myself exactly this:http://serverfault.com/questions/10025/how-to-make-a-bootable-usb-drive-out-of-a-bootable-dvd-or-cd
and apparently not even serverfault has answered it, yet.
