@jimmij Yeah, it's to avoid spurious edits. It sometimes blocks good ones as well. personally, on sites where I don't have the rep to edit, I'll just leave a comment to the OP pointing out the typo.

@JodkaLemon They sometimes come in waves. For some reason, many people who know nothing about Linux seem to think that Kali is the way to go.

@JodkaLemon kali and its predecessor, backtrack are distros that advertise themselves as "penetration testing" distros. In reality they are just ubuntu with a bunch of pentest tools installed on top. The distro is a honeypot for wannabe l33t h4X0rs who have no clue what to do with a computer after they press the power button, so you get a lot of terrible questions from them.

@casey Honeypot? Is that the correct word? Honeypot implies some sort of trap. Customarily used for people committing illegal acts.

@FaheemMitha honeypot derives from a literal pot of honey. Leave one outside and watch the flies and ants succumb to it.

the ones that aren't clueless realize they can add kali repos as a ppa on ubuntu and just install the tools they want

@FaheemMitha script kiddie means they want to run a script and "hack" someone. They don't know what they are running, they don't know how or why it works, they just know "if I run this program, X happens"

e.g. in the late 90's winnuke was popular

the use of honeypot in security is different only in the placement of the honey. They put it where the ants and flies should not exist, so they know the ones they catch were up to no good.
