I'll look @terdon

@FaheemMitha That and the fact that it recognized my hardware far, far better.

@terdon Right

@slm ah, now I understand. By all means go for xfce, it is pretty good.

slm
i've never had issues w/ hardware, it's worked perfectly well, just the stability
I typically have to login every 1-2 days remotely and kill cinnamon

@slm It needs libcjs-dev (>= 2.3.1) and I can't find the damn thing anywhere.

12:01 AM
@FaheemMitha @terdon ;)

Aw, crap, he's here?

slm
They probably have it in F21 so I might jump up to that, hasn't been officially released yet

:)
@slm Dunno, it's only been out a week or two.

@terdon Yes, in the bad old days one had to do everything manually.

Yes, came out on November 1st.

12:02 AM
@terdon You didn't notice? >.>
(or did I miss more sarcasm? I'm so good at that)

@Seth apparently.
:P

lol

@FaheemMitha What was that thing called which we had to use to get windows drivers to run our wireless cards?
It worked, mind you.

@terdon diswrapper or something
ndiswrapper

ndiswrapper!

12:04 AM
Well, probably back to sleep. Take care, guys.

Good night

slm
@Braiam - I deleted the meta A
ndiswrappers - ha that brings back memories

I think ndiswrapper is still sporadically in use.

slm
@Seth - I flagged the A in meta about gnome groupon on AU

Q: Community Promotion Ads - 2014

Grace NoteIt's the time of the year again, namely it is December 2013, and so we shall now refresh our Community Promotion Ads for the new year. What are Community Promotion Ads? Community Promotion Ads are community-vetted advertisements that will show up on the main site, in the right sidebar. The purp...

@slm oh, right. Should probably get that removed.

slm
12:07 AM
the meta flags are in different queues

@FaheemMitha yeah, for some of the pickier cards.
@slm and handled.

slm
thanks

if I get a bigger screen I might give window managers a spin (awesome and i3) but otherwise I'm fine with xfce
wait, there was sarcasm in this room and I wasn't involved? :O

slm
@Braiam - that's a first 8-0

@Braiam not a chance.

12:17 AM
I read the arch wiki and now I came across awesome is a "Dynamic window managers"... just what the heck is that?

slm
In computing, a dynamic window manager is a tiling window manager where windows are tiled based on preset layouts between which the user can switch. Layouts typically have a master area and a slave area. The master area usually shows one window, but one can also change the amount of windows in this area. The point of it is to reserve more space for the more important window(s). The slave area shows the other windows. Tiling window managers that don't use layouts are called manual tiling window managers. They let the user decide where windows should be placed. == X Window System == The following...

oh... the mix between titling and floating?

slm
yeah
the original that I know about is dwm
never could get into the manual ones

@slm do they need that much money to do rsync -a --delete kde gnome?

slm
@Gilles LOL!

is there anything useful about this Q? unix.stackexchange.com/q/153399/41104
going by the answer is a total WXY

@Braiam closed

12:54 AM
Is this too harsh?
> Hi and welcome to the site. Please read our how to ask page. We expect users to first try and solve their issue themselves and to show what they've tried. For example, did you try a search engine? Did you perhaps check the bluefish webpage and see if they had instructions?

Q: How to install Bluefish Editor on Kali Linux?

Mike WentworthHow would I install Bluefish Editor on Kali Linux? Also, how would I install WPS office?

No, I don't think it is.

1:07 AM
and we wonder why people add kali linux tag to those questions...

@terdon looks fine to me.
bluefish is in the repos. WPS office is somewhat trickier but I'm pretty sure they distribute a .deb from their site.

I thought perhaps it wasn't but even so, spend a couple of seconds searching FFS!

indeed.

@Sree - hi
@terdon - shouldn't this Q be migrated to SO?

Q: Socket Programming-Server Code Bind error

ArunI am writing a server-client connection using socket programming my code is #include <stdio.h> #include <netinet/in.h> #include <sys/types.h> int main() { int port_number ; int socket_descriptor ; int bind_return ; int accept_return ; int backlogs=1 ; int cli_len ; struct sockaddr_in servadd...

12:52 PM
@slm look at the revision history: it was locked and unlocked by community at the same time. This means that the question was migrated to SO and automatically rejected there. This happens when the poster is banned from asking questions on the target site.

1:14 PM
@slm yup, Gilles called it, confirmed by chrisF

slm
1:54 PM
thanks @Gilles

2:44 PM
@terdon I don't think its harsh. I'd go so far to create a canonical "How do I do X on Kali" that just says "RTFM" and dupe every Kali question to that one

@casey exactly what I was thinking but with all main distros (Debian-based, RHEL-based, etc.)

You could call it Kali Klueless.

3:00 PM
> You should have called it “The Minority Report”. — Guy talking about name of Stack Exchange's Bosum

@casey lol, tempting...
Oh man, the worst is that the OP has set up some kind of tech site where he bills himself as an all round genius. I read a few of the posts and they're all simplistic sophomoric crap with no depth and no grasp of grammar or vocabulary. Sad. Hell, just check his profile.

@terdon I don't want to see crap over more crap, so, no thanks

Yeah, I was feeling bored and voyeristic.

@terdon That's when people normally watch porn.

@terdon there are so many blogs like that littering the internet. google+ is rampant with people posting inane crap like "10 ways to use the rm command"...

3:08 PM
@FaheemMitha Nah, I watch porn when I need intellectual stimulation.

Of course, we're not normal over here.
@terdon Interesting.

:) I only watch it for the dialog, the profound analyses of the human condition.

Q: Rolling question rate limits are now network-wide

Tim PostWhen you think of Q&A sites, you think of a place where you come to get answers to your questions. But, where do those answers come from? What doesn't immediately stand out for many folks is that it's not our software that's giving them answers, it's other people that are taking the time to share...

@terdon I'll watch what you're watching.

anyone see the point of the emacs tag here?

3:19 PM
@Braiam What emacs tag?

this is evil... but the kind of evil that makes you feel good

@Braiam Oh yeah, that was fun :)

@terdon I saw what you did there!

:)

3:50 PM
anyone using no-stable debian repos is seeing a sum mismatch when you update the package list?

4:46 PM
@Braiam huh?

5:26 PM
@Braiam I doubt that's their work, they're too busy planning on how to ruin Minecraft.

Hi @derobert

Hey

1 hour later…

2 hours later…
8:50 PM
@derobert Minecraft 2.0 - windows phone exclusive

someone verse in Texas' English may want to verify this

@Braiam y'all is just southern/texan for second person plural pronoun. Its actually somewhat handy since english only has "you" for both second person singlular and plural pronouns.

^^ So much so that even some of us not burdened by a southern heritage have started to use it.

9:41 PM
@casey 100 obsidian blocks, now only $0.99!
(I presume Windows Phone has in-app purchases. Not like I can check, since no one has actually used the platform, myself included.)

@derobert I presume, but I don't know anyone who I could ask :)

@derobert they have an api so yeah msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/…

9:56 PM
@Braiam well, there ya go, they've already been planning ahead to ruin it.

10:39 PM
@Gilles I looked at a bunch of questions tagged server. There are a few where it'd be useful... but there is so much noise it's hopeless. It'd take months to go through it, and eternal vigilance to prevent new mistagged questions. We can always come up with a less-generic tag... So I agree with you now: burninate. — derobert Oct 22 at 16:05
@slm @terdon we have a consensus to burninate , can you ping a dev?

slm
@Gilles - ping a dev?

@slm mail or otherwise ;)

@slm we need a dev to DELETE FROM Tags WHERE Name = 'server'
(or rather do it in such a way that the database remains consistent, but you get the idea)

@Gilles pinged. CMs can also do this right?

@terdon not sure (I think some do and some don't), but if they can't then they can ping the right person

11:01 PM
you guys still on here?
I made a $1000 last weekend while you were answering Q's... Providing A's... :)
