I wish "command -p getconf PATH >/dev/null 2>&1 && echo yes" tests if POSIX locale is available for every environment. Where should I ask many people to test it and report the result?

Because you always seem so enthusiastic about lualatex, I thought you were a fan.

I was asked to submit a project report with "times new roman font". I figured I might as well do that (I already have MS fonts installed), and it turns out that the easiest way to do that is to use XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX. But then it turns out that ligatures are missing in the resulting document, so I switched back to pdflatex with an imperfect font (Nimbus).

@AndrasDeak I see. Make sure you are using the most recent TeX Live (the local install works), and do submit a bug report. What version are you currently using?

LuaTeX has been moving quite fast in the last few years. Is your version pre or post the Harfbuzz integration?

I have no idea about any of that, but there was a comment from 2019 saying that the ligatures won't work on windows, so I don't feel like I really need to report this

@LeoLiu The problem of your fantastic answer is that ligatures don't work if you are working with Windows (I think MaC includes the ligatures). Regarding your comment about mathptxand timespackage, I don't know if they use the font you say. But, anyway, Numbus Roman No9 L is a free font practically identical to Times New Roman and it includes the ligatures. It is avaible here (FREE). Finally, I'd like you to develop your note about pclnfss package. It is avaible in the MiKTeX's repository but I haven't managed to make it work. — Dog_69 Jan 7 '19 at 19:17

@AndrasDeak Oh, you're using Windows. OK.

@AndrasDeak Reporting bugs isn't a waste of time, but it's your call.

Ligatures would probably only work after Harfbuzz was integrated. You didn't say what version you are using. You probably wouldn't find it too painful to find that out, if you don't already know it.

@AndrasDeak If you want to send me a sample I'm happy to test on my end. I have the system Debian one installed, as well as the local one. Both (still) TeX Live 2021, I think.

I'm not a big fan of local installs, but in this case it seems to be working reliably, at least for now.

@AndrasDeak Note also that 2019 is well before this integration happened. From memory, it happened in 2021. So this is a particularly compelling reason to use TeX Live 2021, because that's the point at which LuaTeX became functionally comparable with XeTeX.

Does anyone have thoughts about mailbox.org's default spam settings?

I'm not sure I grasp their implications. But I'm also not sure what to do about them.
