👋 Is it overkill to perform builds inside a screen session on machines with low memory?

@deostroll Not at all. On a really small system (in terms of memory), builds my take longer due to swapping. Using screen (or tmux) would allow you to use a single terminal window (or login tty, if not on a GUI) and still have access to an unused command line (started as a separate screen/tmux window or pane).
